Atlas of the Third Imperium, Second Survey

Have people forgotten paper books entirely? I'm honestly amazed at how many posters here are challenged by a page that requires rotating the book 90°.
Well, then, obviously, demonstrably, whatever your intent is, isn't really taking off then, is it?

When I see that image, the field is dominated by upside down text, not "rotated" text. The legend on the side doesn't even enter my field of view to suggest that's what should be down with it. That's likely because it's viewed, on the screen, in vertical pages, vs in a book with facing pages.

In a book, it may well be more intuitive. But, again, demonstrably, in a PDF, not so much.

And, my iMac is pretty heavy and doesn't like being turned well.

In PDF form, you could rotate the page before you publish it.

Or, you could blow it up and have it span two pages if you have extra space in the book.

And, as for paper books -- yea, I pretty much don't buy them any more. Most of my reading is done on an iPad, and my shelves, rooms, and life are cluttered enough without bringing more in to it.

First - thanks for TravellerMap. One of the best resources for gaming ever for any sort of game. I use the APIs all the time for various things (even my sig below is full of links to your site!).

Second - yes, people are really forgetting basic book stuff. I personally prefer books (thought I would be a librarian, somehow ended up writing software). I almost always go for the printed version of stuff when I can - I don't have to worry about power, internet connectivity or any of that. But that conversation can quickly denigrate into the Pit...(and get off my lawn!)

Third - I do like your new Atlas. But that is one thing I actually would not print out (yes, I am inconsistent at times). List of stats just don't do a whole lot for me other than as a starting point for more detail.

Here's a preview - has covers/intro/index/credits, and the Spinward Marches (only) included as a sample. 3MB PDF.

First: When will it be available - I want it (like 20 years ago!)

Second: Will there be multiple data versions? I know there has been updates to the MT data. It would be nice to see multiple version: CT, MT-1215, MT-1230, and TNE for example. Obviously you can't do this with a print product, but with your site and PDFs .....

Third: Thanks!. I love TravellerMap.com

Atlas of the Third Imperium Second Survey – Annotated

It's getting there,

I just finished listing the mains and clusters throughout 28 sectors; now I need to take a look at the maps to ensure that the color coding is consistent.

A little more text for the other items of interest (such as the rifts and their effects).

Looks to be about 120 or so pages (11x17, that would be A3), but may well go smaller. Printing this thing will likely not be inexpensive.

Atlas of the Third Imperium; Second Survey - Annotated

Well, 28 Sectors, 120 pages - Done, now I am trying to get a cover together...

His cover looks very nice, but I'd rather that mine be different so that when you're looking at both you can definitely tell that it is a different book

This seems to be taking forever, so I think that I will likely get a bare bones version out by the end of this month. It probably won't have maps, nor very much text.

Check the file library...

Like I said "Take a peek, pick it apart; provide some suggestions...but most of all, have fun with it"

Work is still on-going, the sectors are pretty much done and I'm working on the supporting Library Data section. Once that is done I plan on putting it all together and finalizing the index. Looks close to 300 pages.

Oops

looking more like 250 pages at the moment. Hope to Kickstart the print for this in a couple of months.

Who is interested?

While I likely would be interested in an online download PDF copy, I would not be interested in a printed hard copy, to be perfectly honest.

My interest in print versions increases as the page count increases. My home printer drinks ink.
Plus, I'm just old-fashioned that way; it is easier to use my fingers as place markers in a book than to create tabs and links in a PDF.
