Aliens Hardback?

Ancient - Absent Friend
I was talking to Marc awhile back and he mentioned he was considering doing a limited run (only a couple hundred), hardback version of the Aliens reprints in a single volume (1-8). If I remember correctly he said it would probably be about $80.

What do you guys think? Is this something you'd be interested in?

I'd be interested if I had $80 to spend. Give Marc my full moral support, for what my moral support is worth.

For that kind of pricetage it would need to be as nice as the GT 25th Anniversary LE book -- sturdy binding, embossed leatherette cover, signed and numbered. I'd need to be able to justify this as a true collector's item.

But yeah, on those conditions I'm all for it. And I'd also like to see the same thing done for The Traveller Book + The Traveller Adventure, while you're asking :D

As I already bought both Alien Reprint volumes, I would have to say "no".

However, I would be incredibly tempted by that Traveller Book + Traveller Adventure idea. I doubt I would be able to resist that. Especially if errata pages were included in the back.

Oh no! If Marc did The Traveller Book + The Traveller Adventure in that form I'd have to find something to sell fast, it would be a must have I'm afraid.

But yeah as much as the Aliens book sounds nice to have I'd have to pass. For me its just not a dear enough subject to justify a collectible shelf book, unlike T. Foster's second suggestion.

Possibly, esp. if the one volume is corrected. The price is a tad high but you're talking a very low print run for a probably low demand product.

Another example of recent "limited" RPG books. (last three books) Yes there was a license but the print run was 1000.

However this Aliens collection would be around 400 pages if I'm figuring things correctly, roughly twice the length at not much more than 1 1/2 times the average cost of the example limited books.

And I don't have any of the Alien reprints yet. :(

Now a combined Traveller Adventure/Book with any errata and maybe some extra goodies would be easily worth the price Marc can set for it, softcover or hardcover.

$80 isn't a bad price. Just to get the two existing reprints costs $60. So I don't see a combination of them going for less than $80.

I would want to see something else than just the Alien books for that price. (especially, as this option only appears now when both Alien Reprints are on the market)

Perhaps, Marc can dig into the GDW library and add some extras that would make it all worthwhile and differenciate from what is already on the market. For instance, adding a worldbook section on Luna, Kusu and including some of TNE stuff on the Inkur. Having a reprint of the articles on Vland and the First Imperium, he wrote up could also be nice, if he could include as a bonus add-on.

And, I actually bought the Traveller's Aid Encyclopedia, which was the German hardback with all the Alien Modules plus Alien Realms plus the Alien Handbook for 200 Dm. Granted that was stiff, at the time, I understood that it was from a smallish publisher, just like T20 and my money would be supporting Traveller.

Lastly, with all the delays that a hardback may entail, I would question whether it could really be a seller. So, I echo the above concerns and say that the Traveller Adventure & Traveller Book. Or a corrected MT, in hardcover would be a better venture.

i buy the reprints to use for playing traveller ( to save the originals , and complete holes in what i have ) more than for collecting . i would much rather see more reprints e.g. fasa stuff . i suspect i may not alone in this .
