Ah, I was wondering if the RPG had a map
Nuff sidetrack on the BSG info? Back to the OT stuff yes?
There is no map, although there is a section that describes the general system layout.
The first assumption I make is that it is a G2 V type star that's similar to our sun in luminoscity and mass.
The second assumption is that all twelve worlds are clustered withing the habitable zone of that star.
The third assumption is that this system is artificial and consists of twelve terraformed worlds all with the basic stock of Earth life or Kobol life if you will, the particular varieties are adapted to their local planetary environments, but they all are basic Earth-stock creatures modified or otherwise. Caprica is a Size 10 planet, though its composition is of lighter material that Earth, silicates mainly, so the gravity falls within Earth normal parameters. All the planet's surfaces are heavily cratered, though covered with a layer of soil, and vegitation. There is ample evidence that these planetary surfaces are relatively young, on the order of 10,000 to 15,000 years, there has not been enough time for the natural forces or weathering and erosion to completely wipe away the cratering that came from the initial planet formation. All of the 12 main colonies have rotation periods that very closely approach 24 hours, and there is evidence that the initial rotation rather of these planets were initially very different. Some unfathomable intelligence was at work here, at a technology that was considerably higher than the current Tech Level 15 maximum of the campaign. The ancient writings refer to the Lords of Kobol as creating these worlds, although they are not very specific as to how they did so. It is obvious that this system is very young, and is not a naturally occuring one, the similar terran life forms found on each of these planets is evidence of this, plus the fact that no fossils are found below a specific level representing 10,000 to 15,000 years ago. Some microbial life is evidenced before this, but nothing very complex.
Ragnar is basically made out of the left over debris after all these planets have been formed, its mass is over several Jupiters worth, and it dwarfs both Zeus and Hera in size. Basically the Twelve Colonies system was a very dirty system with all sorts of comets and planetesimals swarming all over the place until the Lords supposedly swept all this material into Ragnar and basically left it to collapse under its own gravitational pull after the system was made safe for the twelve colonies, more or less. Outside of Ragnar there is also a cometary belt.
Outside of the Twelve Colonies System within about 12 parsecs there are lesser human colonies established by the original 12. Most of these planets are not human habitable, although there is one with a breathable atmosphere but alien floral and fauna, totally unrelated to life in the Twelve Colonies. Beyond that, space is barely explored and is unsettled with the exception of a few mining colonies here and there.
