Zhodani alphabet/script

Vilani looks like the alt keys on an old Commodore 64...
Aslan looks like Arabic
Hiver looks well like a Hiver
But, what does the Zhodani alphabet look like?

Well maybe this is some side research and I'm messing with the independence of the results but I like the one Baron Saarthuran found for a little project. It's a font called Roswell Wreckage. You might have seen it in one of the docudramas about the Roswell NM "UFO" crash.

Very pretty. Are the little circles and the underside angle mark vowels?

I see three "words", all three of which are pretty long. Looks like a synthetic language, then. And I think Zhodani sort of seems synthetic. So, ok.

Looks alphabetic to me.

Now, what are our most common Zhodani word endings? -tl? -pr? -nt?

:) I haven't a clue. I just copied it from the pic the Baron provided and haven't looked for the font yet or tried to puzzle it out.

I just went for it because, as you say, it's very pretty. It just felt Zho to me when I saw it (and I recognized it but couldn't place it until I asked).

It's probably just something typed in English using the font, but I don't know. Maybe the Baron will drop in and enlighten us both.

Out of curiousity: has anyone out there done any work on Zdetl (the Zhodani language) itself? I went fishing around for some information on it about a year or so back; but all I was able to find was a fairly skeletal glossary and an oblique reference or two to basic verb constructions.

Ah yes, the glossary/Dictionary I compiled many years ago. The verb constructions originate from the short article on Zdetl written by GDW back in the CT days of JTAS. Real life and the lack of any serious linguistics training has hampered any serious development past that article. My goal at the time was to compile what was known in the hopes that enough patterns could be drawn from that to create more.

Ah, right, that's one I've yet to see.

Really? The people I play with draw heavily on movie quotes to pepper their game play, and Pulp Fiction is certainly on the list. The movie will make very little sense the first time, but it is worth the repeat performance. Even moreso than Reservoir Dogs, this is the movie that defines Tarantino's chrono-scrambled movie style, so more than one viewing is called for.

Hey what? Don't you remember the prototyping and hemming and hawing done on the TML and TLDL (Traveller Language Development List) over Gvegh, Zdetl, and Trokh? Folks trying to decide which one to tackle next, even though Vilani was still in its infancy?

QFT!!!

I could not stand this movie after I saw it for the first time, but after several years (almost a decade) of friends trying talking about it and telling me I should see it again I finally sat down and watched it. Much better the second and third time around!

I must've been ... uh ... assigned to a different sector of the Ziru while that donnybrook was going on. I couldn't care less about Gvegh; but either Zdetl or Trokh would be useful to me from a gaming perspective.

Really... and here I've been thinking your proficiency with Vilani meant you must be Kenji.
