Xboat: a Traveller RPG 'zine

Should have posted this sooner, but didn't think about it. Kickstarter titled "Xboat: a Traveller RPG 'zine " just ended on Kickstarter. Four issues + one bonus issue on Major & Minor Races. Needed $500 and final total was $11,109.

I am... greatly annoyed.

My bank denied funding this project and I wanted in.

But now that I have the funds, the Kickstarter is funded and I can't plug in my monieeessss!!!

Yeah, i had a brain cramp, but it's from someone who gets together with Marc in person... Rob Eaglestone, aka Robject.

Please let us know when it launches, and how we can subscribe (if we missed the Kickstarter.)

Received both the PDF and print copy of issue 1 this week. Very good production quality (I only found a couple of typos). Very reminiscent of the early JTAS issues. 24 pages.

Supposedly Milieu 1900 but not really. One ship design at TL 17 and mention of the "Republic of Regina" otherwise it could be The Golden Age.

The only downside was that the print version was mailed as is, no envelope or mailing cover, so not pristine when you get it. Robject has indicated that he will address this in the future.

I got my PDF version and am very satisfied with my investment.

Production quality is very good. I particularly like the robot and creature art.

It's nice to see T5 designs. Nothing particularly grabbed me as oooh I'll use that straight from the magazine but I'm looking forward to the rest of the run.

Apparently I was lucky as my print version showed up in perfect condition.

There are also some converted stats (both T5 and Classic I think) in there to be able to use some of the stuff between versions, but mostly it all usable. There was not as much T5 stuff other than the character skills (and in one of the KS updates Rob mentioned how he converted from T5 stats to Classic and that works well enough).

I do miss the JTAS, and this is really nice and very reminiscent of those.

In the KS notes, Rob said the future volume will be shipped in an envelope. I got my copy of XBoat1, and the mailing label on the cover a really good throwback to the JTAS, and other magazines of the era. I rather liked it.

I hmmed and hawed about this one but backed away mostly because I had already backed a bunch from ZineQuest (still waiting on one).

In the meantime we've gotten into Traveller more so I'll be looking to see if I can still get a copy of this. I especially like a zine with some T5 and Classic stuff. I already ordered the Mongoose JTAS....

I think that Rob can be trusted and that he will deliver. He has been good about such things in the past and his track record is viable.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I am (slowly) adding a few new subscribers, since I have a small surplus of issues.

When that surplus approaches zero, I will switch to making individual issues available, and will start figuring out how to sell the PDFs on DriveThruRPG. I don't expect the PDFs to become generally available until 2020.
