Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
Yes, for small ships especially I consider ceilings of no more than 2.3m and above that ~10cm leaves for utilities. That leaves 60cm high x 4.5 m2 = 2.7m3 for each Dt of cabin and corridor.
And XBoats by design probably aren't intended to be repaired by the pilot. Maintenance will be through external hatches rather than internal corridors.
IMTU the entire drive package is a line-replaceable unit. If there's a significant problem, just pull the engines out and slide their replacements in. The malfunctioning or worn drives go back to depot for refurbishment.
This same drive package (a unit composed of a Power Plant B and a Jump Drive B) is also used in the "Scout/Courier, Large" (it's a Marava-class Far Trader but don't tell anyone...). That ship uses two Maneuver Drives A with 1Td of adapters, to get 2G performance. (Out-of-universe, it's a Maneuver Drive B; in-universe, they're spare Scout/Courier maneuver drives.)
In addition to serving as an exploration platform for large crews, they also haul replacement XBoat drives and repair technicians to stranded XBoats.
It's a highly specialized ship, since below factor four, you really don't have to figure out how to squeeze in a fifteen tonne jump drive and a forty tonne water tank in a hundred tonne hull.
