Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
In CT it was Scouts then Merchants. Some Navy and Army. Now that I'm looking at MgT and T5, Merchants who want to scout new markets and Army who want to enjoy their families.
I stopped playing as a PC in the early 80's and only have been refereeing ever since.
Back then, it was Navy or Scouts, or sometimes Navy having later transferred to the Scouts. Except for one notable exception where I played a Navy senior chief, my characters always have been male, human, pilots and officers.

Since I have little to no experience with Traveller - only theoretiocally from reading them rules -, I stick with my experiences in other SF games I played (Star Wars D6, Alternity Star*Drive):
having (re-)read the CT rules I'd stick with "The Other"; and when I owned TNE I remember having produced a series of especially "exploration-like" characters - thus engineers, ordinary ship-crew, and scientists of all kind. But that was then, now is now ...
I feel very inclined to play the medic or the technician with some skill in first aid. The reason is fairly simple: Everyone else wished to run around with blazing (BFG9000-like) gunssZZ or "The Force" and take little care in other areas of expertize ... And I enjoyed the situation, 'cause I role-played a lot into my technician - like a really bad-tempered "Bones"-variation of Scotty, if you know what I mean; and my friends suffered a lot.
But I'd love to play the Captain, if I get the chance to do so sooner or later; and as a matter of fact: in summer 2011 friends and I created a party for Alternity Star*Drive, in which I was supposed to become the captain of the ship and crew ... But we never left the stage of character creation.
