what is "in" jumps space?

Just curious as to what the OFFICIAL WORD and the ideas of others were on this.
My thought had always been that the jumo grid created a bubble around a ship, thus protecting it from whatever was in jump space. Thus, you could space walk during a jump in order to repair damage, etc., just as long as you did not stray beyond the field.
i have heard others say that the grid reacted with the skin of the ship. With this theory, there'd be no way to be outside the ship in jump space.
Another bonus to theory 1 (or perhaps a curse) is that things that are in close proximity to the ship would be taken with it into the jump, whether it be debris, another (smaller) ship, or an enemies missile (doh!).
Having never read an explanaition in the offical documents, I figure it is up to us GMs as to creat the details, but what do y'all think?

There is a long post under the IISS discussion board called what happens when you jump. It discusses all you want to know.

Cheers
Richard

Something lives there. It had never noticed the small ships traversing it's home until a misjumping ship went streaking across his gaze.

Now he is looking for a jump point to open so he can enter our universe and bend it to his will.

All shall perish and sone shall escape!

When Swordy and I were playing around the idea of an Ancients sourcebook. We postualated an Evil lifeform, known as the Enemy, borrowing the name from 2300AD. Later, we reworked it to include some forms of Dark Conspiracy. Pity, I cannot retrieve the manuscript...here I thought those on the TML were consumate document collectors...

Clearly, we are going have wait for the Parliament of Heaven supplement to find out what or who exists in Jumpspace... ;)

Jump space is an n-dimensional space where n is greater than 3. The jump field allows a 3-dimensional object such as a starship to exist in this n-dimensional space. Without the field all the elementary particles (protons, neutrons, electrons) which make up the starship would disintergrate. Its been proven mathmatically that life would be impossible in a space with more than 3 spacial dimensions. A 4-dimensional planet orbiting a 4-dimensional sun would not stay in orbit if its distance varied by the slightest amount, it would either crash into the sun or fly off into space. The same might apple to electrons orbiting protons. Thus matter would disintergrate without a jump field.

Haaaaaang on...

Are we talking about a region of space wracked with non-euclidean angles...

We all know who lives there then (this is very Fading Suns btw) its the city of Tindalos with its dread hounds, the abode of Yog Sothoth who is both Jump Space and also the entry points to Jump Space. The twisted science of Jump Drives opens a gate into Yog Sothoth and the ship passes in; this is one of the problems with unrefined fuel you should never do magic with impure ingredients.

CoC meets Clarks Law... is it any surprise engineers are so odd.

Some of the Lads and I around the Scout office once posed this very question, having "ridden the bubble" many times in the past. One brilliant fellow (me) postulated that outside the "universe" exists two other essential states/places, what have you. The Anitmatter Universe and what we call "Jumpspace"...

The first is a "Negative" or "Antimatter" universe, a very strange place indeed. We came up with a few possibles...

1. Time runs Backwards, and Antimatter takes on the same role matter plays in our "regular" universe

2. A Place where the roles of Matter and Energy are reversed, and time is unquatifiable by our reckoning.

3. This one moron put forth that it is a universe where all of our "evil" counterparts lived. I told him that mine wouldn't be evil, just indifferent. Then we wapped him with a newspaper for a while...

The conversation flowed to a point of where we discussed "Jumpspace" to us indeed it was a place of infinite dimension (greater that 4) but with one major exeception... Tachyons, not Matter is the predominate "Material" found there. confirming some stray tachyon pulse readings we would register from time to time...

We had no real way to tell, as none of us was willing to make the Ultimate Sacrifice for Science on our next jump...

Picture this: a 2 dimensional rubber sheet with two dimensional stars and planets on it in the form of circles. Taking off from one of these circles is a two dimensional spaceship which climbs out of the warped rubber sheet surrounding the heavy circle until it reaches a certain distance, then it activates its jump drive. A three dimensional bubble appears around the 2-D space ship and the bubble floats above the flat rubber sheet and moves a certain distance. A tree dimensional creature would always see the two dimensional space ship face on from what ever angle he'd happen to look at it. The bubble then sinks and merges with the 2-D sheet and then pops joining the 2-D space ship back with the rubber sheet.
