Was it ever explained in GT

Forgive my ignorance, was it ever explained why the timeline diverged?

Or more precisely what did cause Dulinor's Gig to blow up in 1116 GT time?

If we are dealing with GURPS, perhaps, a macro game of Parallel Earths (Universes?) is the raison d'etre of the GURPS line. As I always seen GURPS, as an game system that relies upon multi-game lines converging and diverging with each product allowing one to play GURPS Japan in GURPS Traveller as one would visit a different planet.

If so, what are the other fault lines in the Space-Time Continium, as they relate to Traveller? Perhaps, the whole thing is an experiment by Grandfather?

Furthermore, I notice in different worldbooks that a Black, Grey and White version of each world is taken up. I think this is a great heuristic tool for referees who want to modify the Traveller universe perhaps, we could see more of it.

Don't think it was ever explained (unless it's in Nobles, which I don't have). AFAIK Loren's been deliberately vague on when the actual divergence point is. Though IIRC Dulinor's gig blowing up isn't it - it diverges before then.

SJG are going to be releasing an Infinite Worlds setting early next year for GURPS 4e that sounds exactly like it'd support the crossovers that you have in mind.

Personally, I'd rather Grandfather was just unique to the OTU. Otherwise, you might as well call him "God" and stop pretending he isn't ;) .

There is more on Dulinor in the GURPS Nobles book. It does not explain anymore about the accident, but spreads the rumour of a plot against the emporer and the fact that Dulinor's brother - the admiral, resigned immediately afterwards and has either retired from public life / gone mad / died (can't remember which) soon afterwards.

Cheers
Richard

Loren has stated he's been vague on purpose. He feel's it makes for a better game to leave some (important) things left unstated. I believe the only way the rest of us will learn the answers to your questions would be to recruit a group to go to Texas and ply Loren with fine spirits, beautiful women, and sharp point objects.

At least as early as 1114. In the GTU Strephon decided to make Norris Archduke of Deneb in 1114. In the OTU he didn't.
