VRF- something inbetween "wide" and "narrow"

Ok, so here's a thought-

A VRF Gauss gun has a RoF of 100, if memory serves. This provides either a +10 to hit or +10 dice of damage. Now, would it or would it not be internally consistent to say that with such a large RoF one could do a burst that got say +5 To Hit AND +5 Dice of damage? If that's too much, maybe a +5 to hit, and +3 dice of damage.

I guess it's a fairly minor thing and shouldn't be very hard to implement, but what's the consensus of the people on this board? Yay or nay? Too powerful? Even remotely possible?

Sorry - I thought that was assumed.

In fact what I would allow would be to fire "supressive" fire, but with bursts.

That way there is some structure arround the rules.

I also would allow supressive fire to be used at distance targets (ie as supressive fire rather than just spraying a room) by saying you can supress an area that increases based on the reduction in "damage"

I haven;t actually worked out rules for it (I'm at work at the moment and don't have my book) and I also am unlikely to be running any combats which involve VFR Gauss, so I probably won;t post a reply.

But, why?

I mean, to merely slaughter the target as opposed to obliderate it?

I'd presume any meaningful target for the VRF deserves the full treatment. It shows that you care enough to send the very best

"Two Four, this is Zero Alpha, what is behind the crest"

a Pair of 2 seat light recon tank lifts gently over the crest. They lurk behind a tree while interrogating the terrain. Suddenly a pair of Quad VFR Gauss open up. The Tree disintegrates as the tanks are pushed back 30 feet by the recoil of the long bursts.

What used to be a command track plus 30 cruchies dissappear into bloody wreckage interspersed with flames.

The tanks duck back bahind the crest.

"This is Two Four, There is no active opposition in the valley. Tell the infantry they can move up now"

Ok, I wasn't sure. Somehow what you said (Mink) feels right, so that's what I'll probably go with. Also, I believe there are suppressive fire rules in TA1, which are a little different from T20. They seem a little more complicated than what you find in basic T20.
