Traveller setting

In T5 I get a distinct suggestion that it's rather setting less. That my version of t5 could occur in any era. My question is how does one get hold of setting? I would rather avoid supporting mongoose (fine company but I have had bad experiences) and also are interested in Mega traveller and Traveller: The New Era. Is there a need to purchase more rules? Perhaps I succinctly ask is there a good web site to find Traveller Fluff.

Yes, there is. Here are two places to start:

1. http://www.travellermap.com. This is an interactive starmap for the default Traveller setting.

2. Library Data. A number of fan websites have the "Library Data" for the OTU, which consists of encyclopedic entries of important things to know about the setting (i.e. the Third Imperium). Some are better organized, some are more centralized.

Mine is not as I'd like it, but it is here: http://eaglestone.pocketempires.com/library-data/library_data.html

There are more sites which enumerate guns, armor, vehicles, robots, starships, and more. Some have tools. My site has some of this, and of course, it is ALWAYS UNDER CONSTRUCTION:

I reckon the GURPS material is pretty good. I like the continuation of the CT timeline, which allows me to make continued use of all my old Journals & High Passages and other books.

If you are interested in MegaTraveller or The New Era, you can buy ALL of the books for these in PDF format on CDs from Marc Miller's Far Future Enterprises for quite reasonable prices: generally $35 per CD, and each has a LOT of stuff on it. If you want 3 or more, his 443 deal gives you 4 CDs for the price of 3.

Buying a bit at a time when I had some "extra" money, I have now duplicated almost all of the Traveller books that I already owned, plus gained LOTS of new material that I never had before. The big advantage for me is that I can copy the PDFs from the CDs to my laptop HD and have all of those books right at my fingertips.

All that is lacking is my World Builder's Handbook (a DGP book), some Keith Brothers' books (which are available on CD, I just didn't buy them because I don't refer to the hard-copies that often), and all of my GURPS Traveller books (which FFE does not sell, but are available from SJG, although at much higher prices per individual PDF).

There are also some reasonably priced newer setting materials (written for MgT, but you could adapt) available by downloadable PDF from DriveThruRPG.

The Traveller Wiki is excellent, definitely a setting resource any ref would be mad to pass up
