Traveller miniatures or subsitutes

Hi, its been awhile since I've been here.

I'm looking to see what minis any of you are using for Traveller/Striker games.

Anyone care to share?

Thanks,

Faust

True 25's

I use "true 25mm" minis just because I own the old Grenadier sets from the eighties. These sets command rather high prices on eBay, and are rarely available complete - on the contrary, you usually tend to find single, white primed miniatures on sale.

The Grenadier sets included some character minis from the major races (a couple each of Vargr, Aslan, Droyne and K'Kree, plus a single Hiver) - with the exception of the Zhodani. They even had single examples of minor races like the Ael Yael and the Viirushi. Of couse there was also a variety of human characters in different attires, equipment and poses.

RAFM also made a small "true 25mm" line for TNE in the nineties, including three RCES marines in light/scout battledress, three Aslan mercenaries and a Hiver. These are still obtainable from some online vendors, but are rarely if ever seen on eBay.

Currently the two brands more closely resembling these two original "true 25" Traveller ranges (in scale and looks) are Denizen and Ground Zero Games, both from the UK. Denizen Miniatures have a nice selection of "Ventauran" soldiers whose clamshell helmets very much resemble those of the Zhodani, and GZG's UNSC marines are Third Imperium Marines in battledress in all but in name!

I am not leaving links because as I understand it is against the rules of this forum to write pointers to another comercial sites. But Google is your friend.
;)

You can find pictures of miniatures I use in my games here: httP://gallery.travellerfreeport.com

Nice gallery you have there! A great place where to see some of the Grenadier and RAFM "true 25's" I mentioned above!

BTW, I forgot to speak about MegaMinis. They have released some limited run sets (Droyne, Vargr, K'kree and Bwaps so far), and like Denizen and GZG have a variety of human civilians to complement these ranges. Usually sold though their eBay store.

I do miss someone issuing more Traveller miniatures of this scale. Well, in fact I would be hughely happy even if someone marketed a prepainted Traveller plastic minis range!

Thanks =0)

I have a large box filled swith various Traveller miniatures that are still unpainted. I managed to get most of the RAFM mins, all of the Grenadiers and have all of the MegaMinis that came out in the Traveller range.

I even have a few miniatures from Denizen.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to have to use substitutions for the classic marines in battle dress with the 'sallet' styled helmets.

I've found a heap of figs that are suitable for ships crews, etc. I was just hoping with the release of so many Traveller rpg products in the past year that there would be more Traveller-esque figs running around.

The Pig Iron figs are great, but their armor doesn't cover the entire body. The CSO troops from Rezolution are pretty close, helmets are the issue there. The NOVA security troops from Reaper's new Chronoscope line due out next month look good. I just want better versions of the old Grenadier line.

I can't find a decent photo of the back of a GZG or Denizen fig to save my life.

Heresy and Hasslefree have some interesting ship crew/mercs. GW's Cadians, Kasrkin, and SM Scouts work, but are partially armored.

Maybe I'm being too picky.....

you may point to their site as a link to the specific range pages in the context of such a discussion, within reason.

I was re-reading the Battle Dress article in one of the Megatraveller Digest issues I have and it talked about the vast variety of Combat Armor and Battle Dress styles and configurations. This was encouraging to read, since I've been a little fixated on the 'classic' style. With the concept of many makes and models, there are a plethora of minis available that will fit the bill.

Splinter Light Miniatures (www.splinteredlightminis.com) has a selection of 15mm medieval fantasy Leonines that make nice low tech Aslans or could be easily modified.

Rebel Minis (www.rebelminis.com) has some 15mm Werewolves that make nice Vargyr by themselves or with addition of weapons.

Ground Zero Games (www.groundzerogames.net) has a nice 15mm line in vehicles & human figures. They a nice selection of crew, civilians, & police as well their military lines. I gotten quite a few either by purchase or gift. Though in England, shipping wasn't too bad at the time.

Old Crow (www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/) has a nice 15mm resin vehicle line including official Hammer's Slammers vehicle.

Thanks for those links. Now if only we had something remotely K'kree or Hiver in 15mm... Because the Martial Metals Traveller range is very difficult to find at reasonable prices...

Regarding smaller minis, it's good to know that Ground Zero Games has renditions in 1:300/1:285/6mm scale of their 15mm/25mm ranges, and Adler Miniatures - through their Dark Star range - also offer the fantastic Denizen Miniatures' Ventauran and Federation Troopers in 6mm scale!

Baccus Minis have the Command Horizon range, including a Centaur race which I think can make nice tiny K'kree!

All these three ranges have vehicles so that you can set up huge battles, microarmour style!

Very nice minis. I've sometimes found 6mm usable for 15mm. 25mm bots & some vehicles also work for 15mm. Sometime ago I found some 10mm fantasy Panther people on the web that if they didn't have shields would have made nice young Aslan.

Those are too small for my purposes. I'm writing a skirmish game for 25-28mm figures. The thought of doing a Traveller setting for my sci-fi variant got me way excited.

OK; I prefer true 25mm but what choices do we have in the bigger 28/30mm scale?

I mean classic, space opera sci-fi figures: 40K-style minis with all those spikey bits do not match my idea of Traveller.;)

(On the other hand, being a lazy dude, I am seriously considering getting some pre-painted minis... some "neutral-looking" figures from the Star Wars ranges and maybe some AT-43 figures. If only Rackham issued some sci-fi types in civilian attire or vacc suits...)

I agree. I use some GZG 6mm Mecha as Warbots in 15mm. I also have used some of the stuff from various 28mm SciFi lines for 15mm like you. My latest find were some of the Infinity Games Yáokòngs. They looked good next to the 15mm as large warbots.

I think I'm going to use the Infinity line for my Traveller figs. They have a great blend of styles both for what I call Spacers (scouts, navy, merchants) and for more heavily armed and armored Mercs/Marines etc.

I'm going to use Pig Iron's Heavy Infantry for my Sword Worlders.

Reaper Miniatures's Chronoscope line has some figures that would work well for Traveller miniatures including a couple of guys in combat armor.

Available figures are here: http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/chronoscope/

The Previews section shows a couple more figures including a female mechanic who can be carrying either a gun or a big pocking wrench (with apologies to John Ringo).

Thanks for that link. I didn't see those painted pix before, nor any that showed the back side of the models. The NOVA troops are pretty close to Imperial Marines, but with only two poses, I think I'll wait for now. When they have more poses and different weapons I'll bite.
