Traveller Map world classification

Enoki

SOC-14 1K
I came across a number of worlds with a classification of "Hp???" I can't find any reference to what this means. Anyone know (I'm sure someone does...)?

Looks like there are a bunch of these and also Hn codes worlds in Kaa G!'kul - IIRC these are "Hiver Prime" and "Hiver Norm" like the old Tp Terra-prime and Tn Terra-norm codes that have fallen out of use.

I'm pretty sure they're linked to the Hiver Federation and Hivers as they appear in many spots within their space, but I'd like to know for sure. I do a lot of stuff over on that side of the galaxy and put a lot of it on the Wiki for people to use so I'd like to be able to be thorough about that.

Too bad Leroy Gautney (sp?) site with all of his Hiver Federation Development work as part of HIWG is no longer available on the web. Some of it is in archive.org. I would recommend starting with that, if you can find it. He added a whole bunch of new rules, items, systems, and the like. If anyone would have created the "Hiver Norm" or "Hiver Prime" it would have been him.

So, my best course of action here is to largely ignore the code for now. I'm going to assume that hivers make up a significant portion of the population (a minority though as I'm working on worlds outside the Hiver Federation) on planets with that code and leave it at that for now.

The importance of the code is that, on those planets, hivers do NOT clean the ship of larvae before landing. Vital if running a hiver-centric or hiver-space game.

I thought that code came out of Mongoose - High Population.

I might be mistaken, because I don't have my books handy at the moment

Looking at the first few instances of each in the Kaa G!'Kul data, I'm sure they must be Hiver norm and Hiver prime worlds. Certainly they fit the definitions in the "H is for Hiver" article at the FDA archive tjoneslo linked to.

High Pop already has a code, though, and it is "Hi" (Pop 9+). T5 adds Ph for "Pre-High" which is Pop 8.

A localized Hiver code makes sense, though I'll note that Leroy being the source is not a positive in my opinion. That man needs his own MSDS.

Note also on the Second Survey Data - The Traveller Map, page 5 are more of those Non-Standard / Legacy Codes. One that stands out for Hiver worlds is

Fa Fascinating

I also like

St Steppeworld for the K'kree

Steppeworld would be applicable to any sophont on a Dense or Dense, Tainted world that needs to rise up to 1000m where the pressure drops to Standard or Standard, Tainted. But it's still a Legacy Code, like Ht High Technology and Lt Low Technology.

Some we use, some we eschew.

I think a while ago when I edited a .SEC file last on Leroy's work I left the Hp and Hn codes in.

I basically tried removing any obviously "wrong" worlds like a vacuum planet with a Tech level of 2 etc.
