I prefer the current one using 38 pages of tables and over 50 rolls of 10 different dice in 18 different combinations... After all, it's claimed the outcomes are more realistic as a result!

And realistic ship design! Refs will be required to build 1:1 scale models (inside and out) of any ship they wish to use in a campaign! No more arguing over scale, figure size, hex, square or isometric maps! This should certainly cut down in game arguments about movement and line of sight in combat.
