Traveller 5 up on Kickstarter

Whilst I've no interest in T5, I have been folowing this with avid interest since yesterday morning and I have to say, I'm staggered. As I write this they're only a few hundred dollars off of target in a little over 24 hours. The way it's going they're going to get many times the target number. You never know, if they get enough maybe they could finance a Traveller movie :D

Have you considered proposing to Marc that you sell some artwork to him for T5?

How about a trade, some of my artwork for T5.

I'd love to get my hands on the new edition, but I struggling right now. I know I'm asking alot and the new edition is already ready for print so I'm just dreaming here.

But it's a suggest...

Hadn't seen this mentioned here...

New $51+ level gets T5-CDROM (and looks like prior $50 pledgers can add for the buck).

I reckon it can't hurt to ask. I don't think it's ready to ship yet - from what I can see in the private forum there are still some outstanding questions about how the rules work (e.g. how is damage applied to a character?). The funds being raised build upon the proofing and commenting being done in the forum - my impression is that actually printing it is a way off. The phone of the tome is a mock-up.

If I have that wrong, someone can correct me - I'm just going on what I'm reading around the internet, I have no inside knowledge!

Marc has set a personal deadline to ship Dec 2012, I thought I read.

My Kickstarter contribution will have to wait until my next payday. Anyone in the T5 playtest group will get a CDROM version automagically, as I understand it.

I'm excited about this! I was supporter #300 (at least that's what the counter read after I got done with the online $ apportionment).

I've been a TRAVELLER fan since the late 70s (yeah I know it started in '77) so I was almost "ground floor".

The Big Black Book (BBB as it is being called to differentiate it from the original LLBs) seems to be very expansive with everything the GM and player is going to need - including a bunch of new generation/creation stuff the Marc couldn't even conceive of 'back in the day'.

Welcome aboard, Grey. I'm excited, as well, even though I was late to the game. Indeed the BBB has a larger toolset than CT had, and things that they just didn't have the time to work out back then.

You have more than made up for your "lateness" with your hard work and contributions to the game.

Well, there's a Traveller series in the making, "Far Trader". It even has its own forum on here - two, in fact. :)

Yes, I follow them on FaceBook but they appear to have been quiet for quite some time. Maybe they could benefit from a Kickstarter too :)

Believe me, I've been considering a kickstarter project for this, but I'm loathe to risk taking traffic away from Marc's effort. Andrew is correct, time is an issue, but there are some issues that would be easily resolved with better funding than my personal finances.

Slow and steady, perhaps until Marc's effort with T5 has concluded? Then maybe look at Kickstarter for your own project.

Amazon will not take the payment for the Kickstarter until the Kickstarter time completes. So as long as you know you'll have the funds by then you can sign up anytime.

For what it is worth, when I saw how close it was to the 100,000 target number - I figured "wowsers!".

I knew I'd be contributing simply because of my interactions with Marc have shown him to be a stand up guy. If I could ever have the pleasure of meeting Marc as I have Whipsnade, I'd be happy to shake his hand and say simply "thanks guy".

While I haven't been following the T5 forums all too much, I'd always hoped that we'd see an edition that was as comprehensive as Marc could make it. I'm not sure if I'd lug the big beastie to work so as to read it on a lunch break or something, but I know that I'm not likely to ever drop the Traveller Universe from my menu of offered role playing campaigns for my players. For me, Traveller has been a staple in my life since I graduated from High School and was introduced to it at the University of Buffalo by Rich Ess. I will never forget that one moment when I attempted to stave off hijackers from taking our ship by wearing a deadman's switch armed bomb vest. I had sort of neglected to consider that a dead-man's switch works whether my character is dead, or merely unconscious. ;)

Those were the days when CT was just plain Traveller, and we had FUN.

So - Marc and company? To the success of T5. May the venture be one that is a bright moment as many of us come together in support of the project. There is only one Marc Miller, but there are many of us out here for whom the written words that Marc penned over 30 years ago, still resonate within our heads.

Kudos not only to Marc for Traveller - to to the rest of you who helped keep it alive.

One thing the success of Ogre and Traveller on kickstarter confirms for me is that the customer base for these games exists and that the problem is at the retail and distribution level.

No, it is definitely on the company level, I have asked at a couple of game stores and they don't even know mongoose exists. Marketing your product is business 101....
