Traveller 3d models?

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess it comes down to money. I have so much invested now. It would depend on my ROI ratio. I'm still far from even with money spent vs. money made. Do I make that hill that much more higher? Daz is offering a great sale price and with the free upgrade. Oh here is another question, how is it on render times? I use a Mac Book Pro with 2 gigs of memory. I also have a G4 desk top but I rarely use it for artwork.

Render time speed is definitely subjective. With the same lighting (which you can do using Transposer if you have Poser 6 or 5 in addition to 7) it tends to render the same scene 3-5 times faster than Poser, though it will slow down with a complex trans map.

I must admit I was about ready to give up on blender but I stayed with it and am not making progress by leaps and bounds on my effort to model a traveller ship. I've been working on a basic sulieman scout and have been using the rendered versions shown in GT books as a guide.

While I may not make exact duplicates of them, I'm coming closer to rendering a passable suileman scout, and have in fact opted to make some bits of mine, notable the windows on the front, slightly different that most versions I've seen because I think my version makes a bit more sense.

(I'm making the windows heavily slant forward to give the pilots more of a view outside, and the ability to look upward somewhat, which the normal flat windows didn't allow. Also by sharply slanting the windows it makes more sense aerodynamically than the flat windows. Lastly, sloping the windows makes them a little thicker and harder to penetrate from something coming straight on, in exactly the same way that sloped armor works on tanks.)

You need to install python on your windows system to run it steady, but blender is sure worth it. I've gone from not knowing the program at all to making extreme progress on my scout model, and am developing ideas as I go that may halp on my next plan: A beyowulf free trader.

Somehow I've got the feeling, that rendering a scout ship is a mandatory thing for any Traveller geek :)
Just like writing a "hallo world" program :)

Are there any public domain/freeware models of a beowulf available anywhere?

Did anyone download truspace 7.6 and get it to run? It just displays the startup screen on my system and that's it.

I'd advise people not to bother with this program, it's incredibly delicate and finicky about what it runs on, and won't run at all on a lot of systems without a lot of effort to get everything just right for it.

Even a free program isn't worth it is if just wastes time and does nothing.

TrueSpace working or not

Ran on mine just fine, and it's a 4 year old system. However, having said that: I only went through a couple of the tutorials, and it does not like dual screen systems - it kept moving it from my 2ary 22" widescreen to the default 17" (one of these days I should probably switch the cables around...) I just don't have the time to spend on the learning curve.

But as was said: sometimes free is not always good (although this used to be a relatively expensive product, and when MS bought out the company, it was released as free to compete against Google in the great MS/Google War of trying to out-do one another. And thus we uses can win since competition is usually good!)

Anyway - I just added it to the thread because it may be useful for someone out there, and I think this was the thread asking about free 3D modeling software, or at least it was close enough.

Well, i went to the website and told them it didn;t work, I also contacted their customer spport.

On the website I got the usual, constant, standard, default pre-recorded reply to every problem: Have you updated your drivers? Try updating your drivers!" along with some useless advice like "run it as an admin!" which did no good.

Their customer service told me...TO TRY THEIR FORUMS!

Also, dozens of people seem to have problems with truespace 7.6.
