This game is kind of unplayable as it stands?

Love the concept, but it looks like Marc took the worst parts of MegaTraveller, New Era, FFS, Striker, and mixed things up into an interesting stew. I would have loved an example of how to design a ship (Book 2 and High Guard were pretty decent), Flux ads weirdness to this game and doesn't really add much as far as I can tell. I have had it since it came out (I bought it relatively early), and the more I look at it, the less attractive it is compared to the older systems which were more straight forward and allowed for less gear heading, and more role-play. I think T5 will be a Gear-Heads game in the long run.
 
Hmmm, it is playable even in the 5.0 version as many of us can attest but 5.09 works well and doesn't require fiat decisions like 5.0. What issue are you having? Maybe we can help. Also have you downloaded the errata? Http://www.farfuture.net/FFE-Links.html


If you have an issue please ask. We can help. Saying It is unplayable without saying exactly why is unhelpful.

For example, from your OP I can pull out a good suggestion. That's what I'd like to see more of:

That's a good suggestion. You should know that I've got an example design walk-through here on COTI (let's see if I can find it)... well, first, off, refer to my HELPFUL STUFF link in my .sig. But specifically for starships try here:

You can also try searching for [Shipyard] in the Traveller5 forum, and it will pull up a few dozen designs (not walkthroughs).
