Bioluminescent lighting is cool. Ah, that's an unintended pun.
IMTU, lighting is solid state. But that's no biggie, we have white LEDs and OLEDs already. Maybe our looming energy crunch will push them into the mainstream of home lighting. Back to IMTU.
IMTU, wall panels provide abundant ambient light at any brightness level. They're OLED-like, meaning they can generate any RGB combination and are ultra low-power, and they also function as graphic displays.

OLED in Germany - Tapestries that are television sets and Monitors
There was also a Newsbreak several months ago, which said, that germany is at the moment the leader in developement of this technology.
Alas, that has no meaning. In Germany good concepts were always the first swimming in the loo, and the bad one got in the treasurechest.
Nevermind, local politics.
The Technology is astoundig. Imagine a sheet of Paper covered by OLED's. At the current state of developement they have a theoritical duration of 2000 hours.
The resolution posible with this technology is also very astounding.
