The Fleet is In

This week in Portland is Fleet Week and we have a flotilla of 3 frigets representing the navy. It reminded me of growing up on Hickam AFB outside of Pearl Harbor and the arrival of the Enterprise (it took 3 pollards side by side to get a whole picture) and how it and other AVC were honored with a gun salute when the came into to dock. But in addition the frigets had their military patrol boats preventing other boats from getting to close to their hauls.

My question is do you think the Imperium fleet is treated with a ceremony as it comes into a system/Highport. Would it be met with SDB's performing security? Would their be Fleet Days were civilians get to go into orbit and visit a Battleship?

I am now picturing a high pop, hightech rich world having a Fleet day. A bunch of kids/teenagers in vacsuits on air-rafts walking/flying all over the Dreadnaught, taking pictures with the crew. A Squadron of Fighters performing spacebatics and Marines/army showing off the latest Grav Tanks on the ship's haul. Can you say an interesting adventure/encounter.

I see that as great PR. Capital has the changing of the Guard. Terra has the Marines doing similar as they move and for special local (Imperial) approved celebrations.

This event would connect the Navy with the worlds that they protect.
The main porpoise would be for recruiting.
Retired Navy personel could still keep up to date with the new equipment, seek out old friends still in the service and give younger officers (and NCOs) a chance to pick up tips from the the retired personnel (limited Mentoring).

As referee - spies and sabotage, lost child, retired Admiral trying to take over the bridge.:devil:

So many Ideas :D

Protests, boycotts, riots. Rail-launch scandals.

Not every system might be receptive to a fleet's arrival. And, somewhere, some politico or corp is bound to use media to play up some scandal for the public's consumption at just the right moment...

Apparently none of you are aware of San Francisco's "Peace Navy". A collection of launches, dingeys, air rafts, rowboats who, every year, row out in front of the waterfront along San Francisco's Fisherman's warf and Crissy fields with the Blue Angels logo stamped out with a red "do not" symbol. They tend to garner a lot of middle finger salutes, but also garner some respect....not much, but some.

My favorite incident was the Cessna that buzzed a Los Angeles Class attack sub back in the late 90s when Washington and her battle group sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge. I'm not sure why the Cessna's pilot decided to pick on the sub, but there you have it. Several close fly bys before being waved off somehow.

p.s. oops, the point here being that a fleet arrival is rife for protests and intrique.

And the pilot of that Cessna promptly found his licence to pilot cancelled as soon as he landed due to multiple violations of FAA regs.

I am not going to say there isnt protest of the fleet. I did grew up as an Air Force Brat so I tend to ignore them :) j/k. In my orginal post I mentioned how the navy deployed small boats to chase off riverboats that came to near the the frigets. So I could see protest too and high security. Its one reason why my fleet celebration was set in a Rich Core Pro Imperial System. Or it could be held at a Fleet HQ.

What I am really trying to get in my head is different ways to describe the fleet other than guns blazing. Andrews Movie is fun to watch shame I cant share it with players yet

Imperial fleet over Earth. I recognize the AHL, but what are the others - especially that footbally-looking one?

Opening frames:

Bottom right looks like the Washington class Fleet Tanker (1)

Just above that is the football which looks like the Servant class Fleet Tender (1)

Bottom right looks a lot like the Ghalak class (Imperial) Armoured Cruiser (2)

And of course the other one in the opening cut is the AHL (3)

I don't know what the last one is near the end of the clip.

-------

(1) are from the T20 Solomani ships pdf (not available)

(2) from CT Supplement 9 - Fighting Ships (of the Imperium) - perhaps the Sollies are parading a war prize?

(3) er, that's another Imperial ship isn't it... wait a second, that's not a Sollie victory parade! That's a sneaky Imperial surprise attack disguised as a victory parade with war prizes!! Those Sollie ships are the war prizes!!! ALL STATIONS ALERT! WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!!

It's supposed to be a Planet rather than Ghalalk (they look almost identical, as does the SEH).

Right at the start, in the distance at the top, is a Dragon SDB. Below that is a Kinunir. There are others of each, plus a load of Rampart fighters flying round.

So, Imperial cruisers, escorts and fighters, in formation with SDBs and Solomani tankers over Earth. A peacetime Imperial propaganda maneuver? Perhaps intended to make a statement of unity?

To be honest I'm surprised he wasn't shot down. But I think this was in the 90s, ergo pre-9/11 paranoia.

Here's a "peace navy" excerpt.

There's a bit about the might Mo visiting SF. I was driving over the Golden Gate bridge that day right when the Missouri was steaming underneath. I got some pics of her entering the Golden Gate from fort Cronkite. Magnificent vessel.

That was after they had closed Alameda and the Vinson was moved to Washington I think. Back in the day, there were strippers on the piers at fisherman's wharf put up by the strip clubs like big al's or the cinema and unlucky me, I worked as a doorman/bouncer down in soma dealing with crowds of drunken sailors, crazy days my friend, crazy. I remember a hornet or two going under the bay bridge, I'm not talking the carrier either.
