THANKS SINGULARITY! The IP Holder Has Determined the Future of Charted Space

Adventures and Campaigns written by the IP Holder guide softly or force a path in a heavy handed way. Ultimately, the writers tell you what in their eyes constitutes success and rewards for characters. They also tell you, outright or by implication, how the campaign setting changes due to the characters brave or foolish actions. Sometimes it is just win or die like Deepnight Revelation. Sometimes Charted Space becomes your oyster with Secrets/Wrath of the Ancients.

Sooo kiddies... Singularity is about an AGI that genuinely wants to help advance and protect sentient life with as little declared intrusion as possible. Since the Imperial Navy and the Quarantine Fleet are hunting it and the players down I wonder If Agent of the Imperum is going to show up. In the meantime.
  • What OTU will you get if a certain "secret project" at Celetron gets destroyed long years before IY1128? If the players and their patron succeed, there will never be Virus. This is a only minor victory in the Singularity Campaign
  • What OTU will you get if practical Hop Drive (not experimental or prototype) is developed soon after the campaign ends. Appearing in the 1120s or 1130s.
  • Finally, what OTU will you get if the Third Imperium has access to practical psychohistory and Hop Drive in 1130s to see about this so-called "Yonder Chilling Thought".
In the campaign, these are but 3 of several goals more to say success has been achieved.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

You skipped a bit.

Naalir seeks to replace the nobility and megacorporations to the benefit of every world - a computer ruled socialist utopia...

humanity has a tendency to reject "benevolent" overlords...

Naalir can construct simulated universes so real the electronic memory/personalities experiencing them don't know if they are in reality or sim...

When I first started reading Singularity I was on the side of Naalir, now I am very much of the opinion it has to be stopped...

(the super beings that were PCs from the Ancients trilogy should have no problem dealing with Naalir once they get wind of its plans).

You skipped a bit.
Yes I did. I have not finished reading. I immediately went to Book 3 to see outcomes.

I recall days of old when other games changed its campaign for money grabs, version and story changes in their camaigns. Megatravller, The New Era, Fate of Istus and The Avatar Trilogy. What you speak of is just the little stuff LOL or incidental stuff it will cause or prevent.

It talks of other smaller consequecesevents Naalir will prevent: a pending Imperial Civil War it can forsee handling after the Fifth Frontier War. Lorenverse anyone?

Naalir may allow the imminent civil war to occur so that it can get rid of the nobility, then it only has the megacorporations to deal with...

maybe Virus becomes part of Naalir's restructuring of the Imperium...

something that is missed is what Naalir plans for the Vargr, the Zhodani, the Aslan, the Hive, the K'kree and the Solomani...

surely it will want to extend its benevolent overmind to all corners of charted space... :)

at some point the PCs are going to realise that Naalir has stored memory/personality copies of them, and can clone new bodies, and simulate events...

I'm not convinced that the PCs that survive the three Acts are actually the same individuals that started the adventure, they could be copies of copies... cosmic horror is on the cards :)

I've now lived long enough to see weird Sci-Fi novel/movie/television plots become Epic RPG scenarios in OTU(?) Traveller.

1. The Benevolent A.I. Guides of Asimov's Foundation.
2. The Overlord/Hunter A.I.'s of the Terminator series.
3. A Virtual Reality mix of the first 2 A.I.'s from the Matrix series.
4. And so many more!
