Tell Me About Your Character

NO how do get 20 skill pts. You have a +4 bab which makes her either 8th or 9 th level. Max ranks is 12 add +2 for edu bonus, add another +2 for synegry int bonus of +5 which gives you 16.
And your will save appears to be wrong you lose 1 pt for low wis of 08. OR did you multiclass

 If "Sushi" were 44 years old, that skill set might be believable. Otherwise she's a mega-munchkin.

Given that she started at 14, she could have at least several of the 14-15 skills. But with an EDU of 14, no way could she have Physics 20, much less Jump Theory 20. Even with INT 21 there isn't enough time in 10 years to develop manual technical skills of that magnitude and math-intense theoretical knowledge.

At 1.5m and 32kg  both STR and CON should be 6-7, maybe 8 for one if the other is 6. I don't know how she could learn hands-on things like Mechanical 15, she'd hardly be able to lift a wrench.

Basically, the character is tweaked to reflect her natural genius.

The emphasis on the character is that of roleplay...if she is mishandled, sure, she could be percieved or used as a munchkin, but frankly I don't see it. The character is balanced by her lack of combat skills, and her essental lack of overwhelming elements so typical of a "munchkin" character...The character exhibits none of the sometimes couple of dozen feats possible with upper level characters in T20, nor has the overloaded physical stats beyond her basic character generating ones...she is a prodigy.

Of course, Einstien, Oppenhiemer, Hawkins, or Edison, were all munchkins, by this criteria.

No GM the character was played under had objections, and the charcater is provided here for folks to use as an NPC as they wish.

Sorry I had not stated so at the out set, the character was originally built by the base rules, and then tweaked to suit the description rather than the other way around. If it suits the GMs using this character, feel free to adjust downward
.

Of course, there is alway the other alternatives, to simply ignore it.It is here merely for your perusal and enjoyment.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

as to that element, her stature and size were based directly on a small woman of my aquaintence, very skillful, who was a longtime employee of Lockheed -Martin...she wieghed about 82 lbs., was of Nisei anscestry and all of 4'9' (ok, you got me, should have been more careful on my metrics, guys) and was a master machinist- she worked on jet aircraft turbines. I'd say about, what, Mechanical 15?

Her size had nothing to do with her ability to perform the work at all.

Next time I suggest you read the name of who posted Sushi's stats and then compare it to my handle. I played the Assistant Engineering Goddess *not* the Engineering Goddess.

Keep in mind this is not the initial version of Sushi and is a conversion from CT/MT to T20 stats with a 1 CT Skill Rank to either a 3 or 5 T20 Skill Ranks conversion ratio. This is not a pc fresh out of prior history.

Ok no problem then. I just thought I could be missing something in the t20 rules base. I am in favor of pcs not losing power when ported over to new system. Of course I created Himme and didn't follow the rules.

 Steven Hawkings a munchkin? Next time you see a "munchkin" character confined to a wheelchair, unable to move anything except his eyeballs, let us know!

Seriously though, I was exaggerating that she wouldn't be able to lift a wrench but not on the STR and CON appropriate to such a diminutive stature.

Being modeled after "…a longtime employee…" agrees with my assessment that a prodigious character with decades of experience might have such skills, but not a "twenty four year old" kid. True? :)

from the Websters Encyclopedic Unabridged Dictionary, edition 1989, IIIV printing

Prodigy: a person, esp. a child or young person showing extraordinary talent or ability: as in a musical prodigy- also, a prodigy of learning

would that include twenty four year old kids?

From Sushi herself:

for your reference, since credulity seems lacking as well as imagination and all , lets resort to reality and historical refernce, okies?
T20 16 is equivelent to Phd. So....we have a few examples:

child prodigies from past AND present....

In math:
Paul Erdos
Evariste Galois
Isaac Newton
Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan
Carl Friedrich Gauss

In Music:
Mozart
Georges Bizet

sound familiar? They all not only made significant advances in their fields, but did so BEFORE their 25th birthday

Then there was:

Maria Agnesi, who was a child prodigy who mastered Latin, Hebrew, and Greek by the age of nine. She is by far the most important and extraordinary figure in mathematics during the eighteenth century. She earned the chair for mathematics early in her lifetime. Her most important work Analytical Institutions, was meant only for her brother's use, however, ended up being the most clarified authority on the subject of calculus.

and all by the time she was 23!
is that cool, or what?

Newton was born in 1642, and was recognized for his discovery of the binomial thereom and his pioneering work in gravitational principles by Trinity College when he got his degree in 1665...wow, just 23! not bad, huh?

Gauss was born on April 30th, 1777 in the Duchy of Brunswick, now a part of Germany. He was a child prodigy, and many stories are told of his early mathematical prowess. It is well-documented that he corrected an error in his father's payroll calculations at the age of three, and as an adult he explained that by his recollection he could count before he could talk. Probably the most famous story about young Gauss occured in 1786, when he was nine years old. His teacher, J. G. Büttner, assigned his class the task of adding all of the numbers from 1 to 100. Gauss turned in his slate after only a few seconds, with only the final answer written down. Büttner studiously ignored him until the class had finished, and was astonished to find that Gauss's answer was correct. He asked Gauss how he had arrived at his answer, and Gauss explained: "100+1=101; 99+2=101; 98+3=101, etc., and so we have as many pairs as there are in 100. Thus the answer is 50 X 101 = 5050." Büttner realized at this point that he was not dealing with a typical student, and took steps to assure Gauss's education. He ordered a more advanced book, and put Gauss under the tutelage of his assistant, Johann Christian Martin Bartels (1769-1836), who was also interested in mathematics. It is interesting to note that Bartels went on to become a professor of Mathmatics at Reichenau in Switerland. His career as a mathematician was undistinguished; however, he was apparently an excellent teacher, and his pupils included Lobachevsky in addition to Gauss.

My Hewo!

I COULD go on, there are literally, not dozens, but hundreds.....

Hmph...like I'm not possible...

Sushi

Sushi’s stats converted from Metric (with BG having stated there may be a slight error in the conversion to Metric): 4' 11" & 70 lbs

The Lockheed-Martin employee used as a basis for Sushi’s h/w:
4' 9" & 82 lbs

In T20 Str 12 is slightly above average for a human (+1 modifier) and Con 10 is average for a human (no modifier).

So most female Olympic Gymnasts don't actually exist then? Circus Midgets and Dwarfs can't lift wrenches let alone say dumbbells? Shannon Miller was only 4'10", 79 pounds in 1993 and had already won five Olympic medals. I’d say she’d be more than capable of lifting a wrench and would have stats well above Str 12 and Con 10. So Str 12 and Con 10 are quite possible for someone of such a build.

Also keep in mind by level 8 there have been two ability increases for a T20 character and there is no direct correlation between height/weight and abilities in either CT or T20 nor are there distinctions between the sexes in abilities. For that matter, as has already been pointed out, this character was not originally created in T20 chargen nor is fresh out of prior history with no adventuring.
/me shrugs
Frankly this is Science Fiction Adventure in the Far Future not Realistic Adventures in Medical Science. :D Keeping that in mind even for modern day that’s well within the realm of possibility let along taking into account environmental factors, ancestry, nutritional levels and what not and using a setting like the OTU.

I will note you seem to have had no such problem with the similar h/w Assistant Engineering Goddess & also ex-circus acrobat Asu (T20 stats) (her height fluctuated and may actually be closer to 4’10” but the point still stands). She has since that post in the course of about a year or two of gametime increased her Con to 8 (-1 modifier) and still maintains a chronic diet of Insta-noodles and Insta-natto coupled with a regimen of overworking, staying up too late, and not getting enough rest, thus an average Str & slightly lower than average Con. She also was originally created in (CT stats). There is also Endeavor’s roving ace reporter Siofra who is 4’1” with higher Str and Con (also Belter-born) and is based on an acquaintance of Siofra's player.

As for the Lockheed-Martin employee, it was stated she was used as a model for size and stature and that someone of such shape could lift a wrench and could accomplish such skills. Said employee I am assuming was not a prodigy. Sushi is a prodigy, born in space (belter) in the Far Future and has lived most of her life in low and zero-g environments, most of the time doing physical labor of some sort. Having been exposed to jump-space at a young age she has an unusual gift for working with it. Honestly I am wondering if you read more than just the T20 stats.

As always, YMMV.

ph34r the short cute ones

Most female gmynasts or olympic weightlifters spend years training to acheive incredible strength pound for pound. Even then they tend to pale next to male athletes of a similar weight which isn't the issue of course.

Agreed. I mentioned them as one example of people who achieved average or better Str & Con with a similar h/w to the three characters mentioned.

Those three all started chargen at Age 14 and are now at least 10 years older. I won't give out Siofra's age but she is at *least* 24. From what I have learned about Belters in Traveller or in sf in general they learn how to work in zero-g at a very very early age and start doing what work they can soon after. Asu is an acrobat with a Neo-Traditionalist Mandarin Chinese Mother (in this case think the national gymnastics in modern China and North Korea) so has been practicing Tai Chi etc. as well as training her hindparts off to impress Beloved Mother since she could swim or scurry. ^_^

None of them are what I would call average people, all being Travellers. And with Asu having a DEX of 18 + mad Acrobatic skillz + having worked on Kamsii she comes fairly close to if not being Olympic quality albeit not likely having the endurance to compete in a full Olympic schedule.

Casey

You dont need much strength in low gravity conditions though. You could be highly agile but building strength would be hard.

Of course on the other hand you dont need to be as strong in low gravity so it balances out.

What would Dexterity 18+ corresponde to in Classic Traveller?

Correct. I mentioned belter born to demonstrate how long belters train. Neither belter-born character has been a belter for years and even Sushi has to work on ships with functioning grav-plates  ;) , highports, and has been known to walk around on planets from time to time
. It's not my character and I may have overstated familiarity and being accustomed to zero/low-g enivornments to imply the character is not in normal grav or hardly at all. I do know from in-play the character is very engergetic (uber-hyper?) and very hands on.

Traveller isn't 2300 AD for example (no world adjustments for one) and I assume OTU Travellers would not be limited to living in or have worked solely in zero/low-g environments.

Dex 18 in T20 = 12 (C) in CT. A 6 or 7 in T20 = roughly a 4 or 5 in CT terms. (normal max is 18/12)

Casey

Casey, I said I was exaggerating about Sushi not being able to lift a wrench. BTW because the T20 stat is scaled to 3d6 conversion to CT isn't linear. A 6 in 3d6 probability is just below the lowest decile mark, equivalent to a CT 3. A 3d6 17 is the uppermost 1.85%, which is still better than a 2d6 12 at 2.78%.

I have no problem with Asu; her skills are mostly 5 and below. The total seems reasonable for a character with 10 yrs experience.

"ph34r the short cute ones  "
You can say that again!
__________

Yes, bryan g, I know all about Gauss' childhood story and a few other astounding prodigies. They are literally one-in-a-billion for whatever field is relevant; they exist in a Traveller universe. But should they be a PC or even a regular NPC member of a PCs crew/party?

Still, Gauss wasn't repairing steam-powered engines and pumps while blindfolded, advancing the state of observational astronomy, expert at maritime navigation, and a half dozen other loosely related 19th cen skills equivalent to Sushi's, all the while maintaining peak athletic conditioning.

We're all here for you in the Travanon support group. Sushi's beyond munchkin. The sooner you can admit this, the sooner you can get help. :p

since it's readily apparent that you've missed the point of the character and also apparently don't approve of it, it seems a fine to to drop the subject, don't you?

While I don't agree with you, you're entitled to your opinion. The character was put here for the enjoyment and perhaps use of others, and is about one of a dozen or so I play.

tsk, tsk… such a touchy soul

Mr. Gibson, if you are going to quote me please include the emoticon. The :p is part of the statement. The "graemlins" are included as communication aides on a forum such as this so that the proper tone of a post can be interpreted in the absence of voice inflections and non-verbal cues.
