Tankless SCUBA...

Very interesting

I wonder how long the battery lasts, and whether they've allowed for battery change-outs at any point. Given that the deeper one dives the quicker we go through what's in a tank, the unit may have depth limitations based on how much work it takes to suck in enough oxygen...

The science behind the concept is, apparently from what I read in this article, solid. It is just that the amount of water that would need to be filtered per minute to get enough O2 for humans is simply to much for a device of that size to handle.

Now, what would be interesting though is a hybrid device where you combine a filter like this with conventional scuba tanks. This could lead to either extending the duration of a dive or, for shorter dives, making the equipment smaller.

Either way, it seems to be on the right track to create something like what is seen in Star Wars and the Bond movies, just not quite there yet.
