T5 Web Apps

NEW! Android 2.3.3 and up
Word Generator for Android available for free!

review up. Gave it ★★★☆☆...
missing features:
  • control over fanciful algorithm/authentic algorithm selection
  • control over display size and font
  • expandability
  • Traveller algorithms. (Not mentioned in the G.Play review)

Still waiting for an errata update to continue work on the site...

But meanwhile a user request prompted me to add a "Copy to clipboard"-button to GunMaker.

Here is one randomly generated gun copied using the new button:

ImSnHS-6 Improved Snub Hunting Shotgun - 6

R=2 Cr594 2.52kg QREBS=5+2+2-3 0 Effects=Bullet-7

Recoil=Yes Loud=Loud Flash=No Heat=No Vacc=Ok UW=R=1 CQ=-3

An observation I wanted to share as it demonstrates (at least to me) how much people are interested in T5:

My T5-related website gets more than 20 times the hits my T-SRD-based website gets.

I would really like to know how many newbies are among those visitors. Any idea how to accomplish that? I guess I will need to place a poll somewhere on the index page.

Hey! Thanks for adding the copy button :)

I'm probably what you call a newbie fwiw. I take that to mean people who've come (back) to Traveller because of T5.

I played CT a long time ago but never refereed.

You are welcome! I appreciate user input.

I wouldn't exactly term you a Traveller-newbie even if you are new to T5...
So my poll will have to include the options "Traveller-newbie", "Returning to Traveller due to T5", "On-and-off Traveller-gamer", and "Long-time Traveller-gamer".

Quick question:
Is there a way to feed the random sector data (either as .csv or .sec) into the random system generator?

Imagine generating a sector and then each system within each sub-sector from the top down, or am I missing something?

SectorMaker already creates each and every system. Just click on a row in the table below the map and you are taken to that specific system. Exporting as CSV also gets you all systems, orbits, stars, etc. in one file.

There isn't an "export every planetary system in a sector to PDF" button is there? I am going through each subsector by hand, cutting and pasting each star system and its planets. :oo:

No worries if not. It's a nice little project and keeps me off the streets at night. :rofl: And then I have to name all the planets in the systems. I might name them after the main world and designate them a number based on the orbit. Seems sensible. And I'm having fun..! :ssb::D:ssb:

Another one kept from the street at night - I am a great social worker, I guess. :rofl:

But that's a good idea. I will add an option to also write each system to the PDF - that will become a huge file then, indeed.

EDIT: you can export the CSV, enter the world names (using the procedure described by Draconian: http://www.heldenhaufen.de/T5/Home/Help#CSVusage) and then reimport it for later PDF output (when I have that feature ready for you).

I am just going over the System data for one of my sub-sectors.

I have started to go through the Secondary Survey data layout on page 431, but I am having a little trouble assigning each category:

Golekmi 0205 Ricsci (this bit is no problem!)
C5219B9-8 He Hi Ho In Na Po {+1} (A89-1) [BA47] BE - G 303 N Im M9 III

There is the UWP, and then..? The last two are Stellar and Allegiances (Imperial and M9 III). Worlds is N?? PBG is 303? I assume it is.
He - Hell World?
Hi - High Population?
Ho - Hot
In - Industrial

The T5 book is a bit tricky to fathom at this point!

I have started to go through the Secondary Survey data layout on page 431, but I am having a little trouble assigning each category:

The first parts are okay, but after the noble codes this appear a mishmash of T5 and CT codes.

Using http://travellermap.com/doc/secondsurvey.html

He = Hellworld
Hi = Hi pop (Pop 9+)
Ho = Hot (1 orbit inside habit zone)
In = Industrial
Na = No agricultural
Po = Poor

{+1} = importance (of minor importance)

A = resources (plentiful resources)
8 = Labor (very high labor participation)
9 = Infractructure (Well developed infrastructure)
-1 = Effeciency (world is somewhat ineffecient and loses money (negative RU's produced))

B = Homogeneity (very homogonous culture)
A = Acceptance (very accepting of offworlders)
4 = Strangeness (Not very strange but some oddoties exist)
7 = Symbols (Likes to use symbology)

B = Baron onworld
E = Count onworld

G = this is the base code (minor naval base). This should appear before the TAS code. Not after

- = TAS Green

3 = Pop multiplier
0 = No planetoid belts
3 = 3 gas giants

Missing number? The number of worlds should be here as an integer.

N = hmm, this used to mean imperial naval base, but shoudl be elsewhere (where the G minor naval base is)

Im = imperial allegiance
M9III = star

So with a bit of modding -
C5219B9-8 He Hi Ho In Na Po {+1} (A89-1) [BA47] BE N - 303 XX Im M9 III

I assume a Naval base 'N' superceeds a small base 'G'.
XX represents the number of worlds (an integer)

On edit...ah beaten to it. Slow typing :P

From the sector generator page, looks like it's using:

Hex
Name
UWP (StSAHPGL-T)
TC and Rem
{ Ix }
( Ex )
[ Cx ]
N - nobility
B - bases
Z - zone
PBG
W - worlds
A - allegiance
Stellar
Cargo ID

So this bit:

BE - G 303 N Im M9 III

.. is Nobility (BE = Baron + Count), Bases (- = none), Zone (G = green), PBG (303), Worlds (N = 22), Allegiance (Im), Stellar (M9 III).

There's some discussion about whether Worlds should be written as decimal or eHex in SS data. Right now I'm using decimal since I only handle T5 data in file formats that can cope with variable width data.

Hmmm. I generate the sector (for T5?) and then I dump the .sec file in the Booklet maker (because it looks awesome). The sector data as you see it is straight from the T5 sector and system gen webapp.

Another fresh one (for example):

Sal 0407 Tadatau
B430352-E De Ho Lk Lo Po Sa {+1} (820+2) [745E] - - G 610 A Im K3 V

Sal - Sector
0407 - Hex
Tadatau - Main World Name
B430352-E - UWP
De Ho Lk Lo Po Sa - Remarks
{+1} - Importance
(820+2) - Economic
[745E] - Cultural
- - Nobility (none)
- - Bases (none)
G - Travel Zone
610 - Population, Belts, Giants
A - Worlds (Here is would be ten in total if hex?)
Im - Allegiance
K3 V - Stellar

Going back over my data:

Golekmi 0205 Ricsci
C5219B9-8 He Hi Ho In Na Po {+1} (A89-1) [BA47] BE - G 303 N Im M9 III

Ricsci - Sector
0205 - Hex Location
Golekmi - Main World Name
C5219B9-8 - UWP
He Hi Ho In Na Po - Remarks and TradeCodes
{+1} - Importance Extension
(A89-1) - Economic Extension
[BA47] - Cultural Extension
BE - Nobility
- - Bases (none)
G - TravelZone
303 - PBG - Population, Belts, Giants
N - Worlds (looking at the Dec to eHex table it is 22, as said)
Im - Allegiance
M9 III - StellarData

What has thrown be has been the N for World data. I can see now that the Worlds and Allegiance sections were in different places (swapped) to what I expected. But I now grokk eHex slightly better. I've had a look at the other systems coming out of the T5 Web app are generated: Worlds, Allegiance, Stellar and the Survey data definition document says: Allegiance, Worlds, Stellar.

Has there been a change, or is this a slight glitch in the matrix?

No missing number, N is eHex for the number of worlds. I aimed to reproduce the listing on page 431 of T5 and just added the cargo. I decided to use eHex for W as all other data also uses eHex and nothing indicated to use decimals. Of course, I may be wrong. Easy to change, anyway.

The documentation just states that, too. I may be blind for my own mistakes, though. Where does a mixture of CT and T5 occur?

The TravellerMap docu page shows a correct example World/Allegiance/Stellar, but the bullets under "Contents" change that order to Allegiance/World/Stellar. That's the glitch, I think.

Still, I have no idea why W (number of worlds) should use decimals...
