T5 Errata Thread

Minor issue, but still confusing:

p 187: "Gustav rolls 6. Gustav rolls 11."

Why are two rolls listed there together? Looks like the 11 was supposed to go with the second example there, so I presume it can be cut here.

Careers on page 74, at the start of the 'The Armed Forces' section states that Service Branches give a DM to the Risk roll.

Yet in the example on the same page, and on the career tables for Spacer (p. 80), Soldier (p. 90) and Marine (p. 94) these numbers are referred to as Mods.

Given that the example resolves the numbers as if they are DMs, mentions of the Branch modifiers as Mods should read DMs in all cases.

Ok, I've looked at this several different ways, and the example on page 74 appears to resolve these numbers as if they are Mods, not DMs to me. Mods always alter the target number; DMs always alter the dice result.

The real errata appears to be in the Branch/Assignment explanation, where it should read Mods instead of DMs, yes? Am I looking at this wrong?

The example is still wrong (from page 74):

For example, Star Marine Captain Sir Mark Poles 98998B participated in the Retreat from Jewell. In this Term, he is in the Protected Forces (Mod 2), [...]

This describes not a Mod, but a DM. The worst thing, in the description of the target to roll a little further on, the text has it correct.

The problem is that the branch tables call them Mods, but they should be DMs, whereas the main text has it correct (and the example messes up). Mods wouldn't make sense for Branch/Assignment, as they would make the Risk roll easier the more dangerous your Branch/Assignment.

So either the Branch tables or the text must fix the sign on the modifiers.

re page 74, the confusion starts on page 73.

Basically, if they are Mods the values have to start out negative on the career pages to make the Risk roll harder and the Reward roll easier. If they are DMs then the values can stay positive on the career pages as that then makes the Risk harder and the Reward easier.

Decide which is easiest to fix and adjust accordingly. My vote is make them DMs and adjust pages 73 and 74 as required, rather than changing multiple values on multiple pages.

The QREBS system is missing a chart of some kind to calculate price multipliers.

The system should be similar to, say, the Tire Modification System from Car Wars (ie, Steel Belted Fireproof Solid tires), the stacking advantage Enhancement modifiers from GURPS, and/or the equipment modifiers from GURPS Dungeon Fantasy.

Suggestion... multiply all multipliers to get a % price increase. Example: 1.5 * 2 * .9 * .8. Though in practice it might tend to be something more like 3 * .8 for, say, a high quality bulky item net price multiplier.

Habitable Zones

I had trouble with generating planets in conjunction with giving a sophont a home-system.

p. 548: The correct Habitable Zones for O- and B-class stars are not listed, although sophonts can be generated with home-systems with those stars, chart 04. "O" and "OB" are mentioned as stellar types but it's probably a mistake and should just be "O" and "B".

There is no clue for what the Habitable Zones for O- and B- stars should be in chart F, p. 436 either. "OB" is mentioned again as a stellar class.

Habitable Zones are given in forms H1, J1 and K1, the solar-system diagrams. p. 442, form K1, has a Remote System diagram and indicates the Habitable Zone orbit for "B0" stars but no other kinds. Also I'm wondering if very large stars occupy orbit 0 or even 1 and make planets there impossible.

I think a few other star types are missing from the forms as well. For example, if a home-star for a sophont is generated as a G5 IV star, the Habitable Zone Orbit is given as "5" from the chart 04 of p. 548. However, if you go to form H1 and look at Orbit 5, no G-star type and size is listed there.

10D Dice Tables

p. 29 Dice tables are given for dice-rolls of different numbers of dice, to give probabilities. At the end of each table there is a summary, for example 9D:

There are 10,077,696 possible outcomes from 9 to 54.
The most probable roll is 31 or 32 (equally at 8% each).

However there is no summary at the end of the 10D table. They ran out of room to place it anywhere.

p. 300, 12 Vehicle Enhancers, G Options

The Luxury option sets quality to Q=4

Q=4 is according to p.194 "Below average", so that ain't luxury :)

I'm a bit confused how this would work even if its supposed to be Q=6 "Better than some". Quality is a derived value for vehicles based on "5+Motive TL minus Actual TL". So it might be possible to lower Q by selecting the Luxury option.

Suggested fix, make Q=+2 on this table

or

make Q=A on this table

Worldgen Remote Fillform

p. 443, Worldgen Remote Fillform, the form to note the orbits of Remote planets orbits 14-19, is labelled J2 by mistake in the top right corner. It should be K2 as the J's are already for the Outer planets.

Also on K1 and K2, orbit 13 is part of the Remote area and the stars for which it is the Habitable Zone (HZ) are mentioned, but there is no line 13 on this page in the Occupied Orbits list.

Thanks DonM ... that's awesome ....

One thing ... I was hoping for a clarification of the multiple effect types for weapons in personal combat and if they stack or are resolved separately against armor ... for example a Laser Rifle with Burn-4 Pen-2 ... does it resolve each effect separately against armor OR stack them ...

I suppose the debate will continue :-(

v0.7 clarification needed

p. 89, 07 Spacers, A Spacers (correction): The controlling characteristic for “Promotion Officer” should be Soc.
In the original text, it was "Soc Mod +1 per Medal". Does this mean that the Mod for medals is being deleted?

Okay so Errata 7.1 says:

p. 347, 19 Payload, Accommodations (correction): The Emergency Low Berth should contain 4 individuals, not 10 individuals, matching page 625.

But that means on the same table Frozen Watch should only contain 8 individuals, right?

And Emergency Capsule should be clarified. It reads as an emergency shelter within the ship, but "capsule" is used with Low Berths on p.635 to double, mass and volume but not capacity and extend off line running time. Emergency Capsule could also be interpreted as a Liferaft.

Finally is the Emergency Capsule capacity of 10 correct? 10 people in 1ton for 15 days seems awfully cramped when a ton usually has 4-5 individuals.

Entertainers.

Page 85. Correction. Entertainer. A ENTERTAINER. Musician To Begin C2. Should be C2 or C3 as Endurance is more important than Dex for some musical careers, like Musician (Voice). Also, Chef should be Int, as again remembering recipes and flavor mixes are more important than Dex (or C2). If anything, I might even go with Edu. And Actor also should be Int.

Page 80. Homeworld-1. Homeworld. H. Hydrographics. Clarification required:

As of errata v0.71 Hydrographics are Flux + Atm - does this mean that the Atm-based DMs are no longer needed?

Page 431. A. Worldgen Checklist. Elements of System Data. PBG Population.

As of errata v0.71 Population Multiple is 2D-2, rerolling "0" results. This may yield a 10 as a possible result. But a ten shouldn't be possible as that just means a multiple of 1 of the next higher Population code. To prevent this, add "also rerolling "10" results.

This 2D-2 method also yields weighted results, tending toward "5" results.

I therefore suggest using 1-9 Even Distribution from page 31.
