T5 Errata Discussion Thread

Merchant commission step in character generation

A merchant commission step was mentioned in the 0.71 errata p. 89, "Add “Commission, C5” before Officer Promotion."

But it wasn't likewise noted in the errata for p. 79, Character Generation Checklist.

The placement of the Commission line is a little unclear. In analogy to other careers, I am hoping the sequence is:

Event: Throw:

To Begin Temp Automatic
To Begin Spacehand Dex
To Begin M1 Int

Risk and Reward C1 C2 C3 C4
Officer Promotion Termsx2 (Mod +3 if Int 8+)
Commission C5
R Promotion 9 (Mod +2 if Int 6+)
Continue Str

The errata of p. 88 says Add “Commission, C5” before Officer Promotion. but if it is placed ahead of Officer Promotion when Officer Promotion is moved, there is a chance of commission and promotion in the same term, a situation which seems to be avoided in the corrections of the other careers.

To be honest, no. It's an identical error, repeated in several places. The errata is noted in the UPP row, but it's also in the DNA row on the bottom half of the character sheet. I don't see what else C3 could be, since this is the human character sheet. Certainly it can't be Edu.

And since the human character sheet is reproduced identically in the inside front cover, why hesitate to errata that too? It would seem to be a slam-dunk.

Ok, I'll try and explain in another way. There are two versions of the errata document. One version has an additional color of red -- items Marc has not addressed, or are not yet incorporated into his set of updated files. I don't move items from red to blue (new) until I know he has updated his files (so no errata is lost).

If I don't see the update in his file, it stays red and I keep bringing it to his attention until I see the update. Only then does the fix go blue.

Does that make sense?

I saw a reference to this in another forum but I couldn't find it here.

Page 530, Basic Ability Allocation
First sentence, "The character has three times Psi in points available to allocate to the six Psionic Senses,..." This contradicts the example in the first paragraph of the example at the bottom of the same column where it says, "He has (Psi-5 x 6 = ) 30 points to allocate among the Psionic Senses. He decides to concentrate and allocates all 30 points to Psi-Vision."

Move (Telekinesis) is broken

Page 530, Move
Move (Direct) is broken. Using the formula given, if a PSI Operator with Direct-4 and Move-4 is touching (Range=0) a building (Size=7), the PSI can move the building:
Range (nD) < Constant + Direct - Size
0D6 < 4 + 4 - 7
0 < 1
Suggest changing the Move formula to work with Mass and Range/Speed instead of Range and Size.
Move an Object
Mass (nD6) < Constant + Remote - (Range + Speed)
Mass (nD6) < Constant + Direct - Speed

Examples:
Briefcase from 1km at 10kph
Mass (nD6) < Constant + Remote - (Range + Speed)
2Dd < 7 + 7 - (5 + 2)
2D6 < 7

Human Telekinetic Flight at 50kph
Mass (nD6) < Constant + Direct - Speed
3D6 < 7 + 7 - 5
3D6 < 9

Lift a ground vehicle
Mass (nD6) < Constant + Direct
4D6 < 7 + 7
4D6 < 14

Wow (related errata comment) .... I just spent the last 5 hours marking up my personal (hard drive) version of the T5 text master.pdf file to the v0.71 errata using PDF converter enterprise 7 .... pretty easy but mind numbingly boring ..... but at least I now have an electronic (searchable) version of T5 with all the 'official' errata marked up ..... yay!

Yes, I am doing the same kind of thing with my .pdf copy but just using Adobe Reader's own Comment features (Annotate and Highlighter), with the occasional use of text addition and red-lines. It all does take hours. It is most critical to correct the errata in the character-generation pages I think.

I've done it using Preview on OS X.

Daily Roll, Potential Bad Day p. 191

Under the QREBS chapter, p. 191 right column, Using Reliability, there is a reference to The Daily Roll and a Potential Bad Day, but I can't locate any of those terms again. Do I follow the chart on p. 196?

Talents: Compute, p. 176.

For the Compute Talent, p. 176, there is a table at the bottom of the left column but it is unclear how the table should be used. Do we mix and match Speed, Errors and Search Size, or must we pick a line and apply all the factors together for that line?

(as this is the discussion thread)

Out of curiosity, how much of T5 'BBB' has been completed errata-wise? This is a nuts endeavour and my hat goes off to all involved. It really shows a deep love for the game (in general, not any specific version!)

My mind is blown.

Errata p. 41

I moved this from T5 Errata because it turned into a discussion. Sorry.

You may want to read the table properly as well, look at the 2 columns one is R= and the other is S=. The first 16 weapons are all under R= while the last 7 are under S=, excepting Particle Accelerator which is in both.

Well, that is confusing! There are two range systems given on Weapons table (A) p. 342, so if Beam Laser (L) is R=7 that is S=2 or only 50 km, so the errata of p. 41 is wrong for Beam. The page is also wrong for Missile too (limit S=7 not 6.)

Not a good idea to have two range-systems in space combat.

Concerning A. Particle Accelerator, there is an unexplained asterisk (*) which in the Old Master Text on the CD-ROM says, "*Particle Accelerator uses S= in Space Attacks." On the ground, it has max. range R=7. Space mode and in-atmosphere mode are figured differently as per p. 388.

I have no problem with 2 types of ranges, but i do have a problem with weapons designed for one of those range types being given another range type entirely.

As it is it doesn't affect my game, as i allow weapons to fire beyond their stated maximum range, but like skills if the weapon does so the gunner has to add an additional die to the roll for using the weapon beyond its normal operating parameters.

Errata p. 80, 3 HABITABLE ZONE ORBIT

In the errata for p. 80:

"p. 80, Homeworld-1, 3 Habitable Zone Orbit (correction): The second column heading should be “> A3”, and all other headings moved over one column."

This errata doesn't seem to make sense. I believe only the 2nd line of type in the headings was shifted to the left by mistake, so the first column should read ">A0-A3", the next A4-A8, A9-F1, and so on, with M9 in its own column at the end, like on p. 548 for generating sophonts, with no ranges overlapping.

But then the forms H1-K1 do not seem to always match. There are B-stars mentioned for Orbit 13 as a Habitable Zone that are not represented on the table at all. This all needs clarification and strict correspondence between p. 80 and p. 548, and the Worldgen forms H1, J1 and K1 (pp. 438-442).

DM table for NATIVE TERRAIN AND LOCOMOTION, p. 549

On p. 549, following the errata correction, I'm not sure how to apply the DM table to the B. NATIVE TERRAIN AND LOCOMOTION rolls. Are they applied on the initial Flux roll for terrain, or on the 1D roll to consult the terrain row? Does Hydrographic 9+ use both the +1 mod for Hyd 9+ and the one for Hyd 6+ to make a total of +2??

@DonM: What is the state of the errata? When can we expect an update (last one has been a month ago)? What is the general timeline of the T5 product line? Especially the items the Kickstarter promised (deckplans, player's handbook)?

I am currently suffering from information "underload" concerning official T5 statements... :)

On hold for me until next week...

In the "real world", I've been moving my son to Washington DC for his Masters program... it's amazing how much this interferes with my Traveller time.

I'll have one week of focus, then my wife has surgery, and I suspect that might take more time away. Is it the end of September yet?

Back to T5, Marc has been focusing on Combat and BeastMaker. I'll see where he's at when I get home tomorrow.

That's cool, I am pleased to get quasi-official corrections whenever in the future you and Marc can update the errata file. Thank you for your efforts!

I am less concerned than at first reading with errata. The most critical ones to me seemed to be about character creation. However, the ozone-layer above my head opened up, and I got a flash of Sparkle which gave me the insight that the Term steps had to be re-ordered in several Careers as Officer Promotion check, Commission check, and Enlisted Promotion check in that order, so as to avoid getting a skill for Commission and a skill for Promotion in the same term.

A lot of skills in the tables were changed, though, and I had the ignominy of having to paste a completely revised Citizen Skills table into my book, but why not, it's just paper.

I confined my remarks in the Errata Thread to things which may affect the use of rules, but I also collected a whole lot of other minor typos. Is there a way I might forward a textfile or Word doc with all of them, if that would be a long-term help?

Errata Thread vs Errata Discussion Thread

By the way guys, there is no discussion of errata in the Errata Thread. That is just for reporting an erratum you are sure of, and stating the page-number. The Errata Discussion thread here is for discussion.

Please review the first message of the Errata Thread where Don said so.
