T5 draft rules update

I would guess it would depend on the blurb in front stating what the author considers fair. If it is OK to print out a copy for yourself I'd bet you could get a private copy done.

I am definitely NOT talking any attempt to violate copyright. My expectation when I buy PDF gaming supplies is the author expects me to print it out and writes the restrictions to match.

Even with the notice neither would likely allow it. I've heard horror stories about Kinkos.

I haven't had any problem with them, but I'm in Canada, so the legal environment may be a bit more cleanly defined.

There may be an issue with a third party printing stuff, since it isn't for *their* use, it's for *your* use, but that's slicing the hairs a bit thin... IANAL, especially not in US jurisdictions

On a different note, perhaps T5 will take the route pioneered by Baen and offer the PDF's for the same price as the print book as "Advanced" copies, and then drop the price once hardcopy is released to the public. I'm pretty sure that it's a moneymaker for Baen, but it could be used to advantage in the Traveller community, since the :hardcore" fans are likely to be the ones buying the advanced versions, and a contest (with prizes) for finding the worst error(s) (which will *always* make it past your proofreaders, even if they're way better than the ones used for T4)

This would provide an additional mechanism to get another round of typo-killing done before the final version goes to (hardcopy) press.

I know that my local kinkos will take PDF's and print them for you.

Unless you're the publisher, the author, or the listed copyright holder, however, they want permission IN WRITING, with an original signature, or a specific permission in the PDF.

It depends on your relationship to the Kinko's, as well. I had no trouble printing large batches of stuff there under our company's account, with nary a word about copyright - even when using their print-over-the-internet-to-someplace-far-away service.

If you go in with a thumb drive, you should be able to print it out from one of their computers, though, as a self-service item. That shouldn't be a problem.
