T4 Space Combat Questions

Passive sensors already don't detect well; I believe that's why they have a relatively low rating. In other words, isn't the "hard to detect" bit built-in to passives?
I meant, if the target is using Passive sensors only, then the attacker should get an additional penalty on his sensor lock roll.

Here's another weird thing about T4:

There are more than a few hints about a rudimentary power allocation system. For instance, the number of turns it takes to jump out of combat depend on how much power you have available. I think you might even turn off lasers in order to make a jump....

T4 makes a noticable lurch in the direction of Star Fleet Battles with this rule.... But it is not fully embraced....

That may have come from High Guard, which first introduced those rules to Traveller.

Any idea about sancaster ratings and gunner requirements?

I was going to let people load up as many sancasters as they wanted... and then they can have one roll per gunner.

So a ship with sandaster rating 8 loads up with 8 sandcasters... and if it had two gunners, they each would fire their defense roll with ratings of 4. (And if three laser hits were scored, they could only attempt to block two of them.)

[Why do I feel like the first person to care this much...?]

Heh heh. So many questions, Grasshopper...

I was thinking a Sandcaster "rating" was how much power or damage the sand would absorb from the incoming laser fire.

Return fire -- I assume it works as in CT: the attacker fires, and the defender gets an immediate return fire.

Predict... in CT, I think this provides a DM for the gunner, not missile or sandcaster salvos.

Return Fire has to be just a remnant from CT. It makes sense with the sequence of play over there. In T4... where there are elaborate (but ambiguous) sensor rules... it would seem silly to allow a cheap computer program to ruin the sensor/submarine sneak attack. No... Return Fire only makes sense in the old SoP... it has no meaning in T4 where the SoP is collapsed.
