T4 gets a bad rap

The character generation system have a nice torch your character didnot die on you while generation him or her. I member when I first ran Traveler when it first came out so many player where dieing while being generate that final rule that character cannot die while being generate. How many of you at one time or another make just than ruleing.

I instituted a fix not unlike that found in most more current rules. A failed survival roll does not mean death. It means Mishap; Probably Painful.

I like t20's career specific mishap tables. They are amusing and add life to the 'failed survival roll' But T4's injury rules were better than death.

My personal opinion is that the fabled T5 already exists... Take T4, apply the errata, and republish.
As a matter of fact, that's very similar to what Marc has in mind for T5. I think it's obvious that T4 has some very useful updates to the CT rules, and Marc isn't going to throw away the rules additions -- just refine them further.

I have found that if you take a copy of T4 and rip the task chapter out and plug in a copy of the MT Task chapters from both of the Players and Ref's books you suddenly have a very good game.
And that's what I'd actually like to see in T5. Unfortunately for me, I think Marc is committed to the T4-style task system. If that's the way it is, then I'll live with it.

Looking at the email conversation I recently
had with (and published in the MT board) Mr. Miller, I'd say that's the case. He has decided that the multiple dice paradime works for him and that's that.

I prefer 2d6. Shrug. It will always be a no brainer to plug that in instead of any official system

Personally, I don't see T5 ever being published. With GURPS Traveller and T20 on the market, T5 wouldn't sell enough to make it profitable. And like it or not, game companies are in the business to make a profit.
I think T5 was going to be the next Traveller incarnation before the T20 project came into being. Since then, T5 is dead in the water.

Trust me, T20 didn't delay anything concerning T5. It isn't dead in the water either. Marc is working on T5 constantly. Just got a section on creating Alien Races from him to look over as a matter of fact. T5 won't just be T4 with the errata added. I can tell you that.

As far as the task system, we did manage to convince Marc to drop the 1/2 dice! While not my favorite task system, without the 1/2 dice it is quite usable.

Well, I'm certainly glad to hear that. But I still don't see how he's going to make any money off it, though it's definately a worthwhile project even if it's not likely to bring in the big bucks. I'm sure almost everyone in the CotI will buy a copy.

I don't know what convinced him, but the half die is out. Yay!

Traveller5.com has the playtest files for chargen, skills, tasks, life pursuits, the EPIC system, plus a TOC and envisioned "Product List". As if that's not enough, Traveller5.com has several discussion fora that hash through technical and non-technical aspects of T5.

So far, the biggest discussions are about
(1) the book type and cover layout
(2) distribution of content
(3) the skills
(4) the relative merits of various task systems

Come on over! Test out the rules and post your results, comments, and suggestions... The more the merrier.

Crossover experience might be invaluable -- for example, if you've played both T4 and T20, then your input could be enlightening, to say the least.

T-4 to me, seems "out of Kilter", "out of Phase"
Just dosent "do it"

dont like the deck plans in it, dont like the illistrations, dont like the style of writing.

BUT...TOTAL re-do could change my mind.

just cant put my finger on its problem.

MECHANICS could work, with changes.
