Survival Food Ration

so why do they go into space at all?

Because the G'naak, the lovely fellows who were hunting, capturing, and eaten them alive, had a colony on Kirur's moon.

If the prospect of hanging can concentrate one's mind, the prospect of becoming tartare must really do so.

dunno ... seems kind of artificial, like saying humans require an arboreal setting.

We're plains apes, Fly. Cursorial limbs, persistence hunting, and all that.

The Seurrat are the ones with whopping huge trees running down the center of their STL generation shipss.

... so the k'kree are intelligent cattle, rather than sophonts based on herbivores?

Sophonts based on herbivores.

We plains apes share some of the same claustrophobic tendencies and need for social contact that K'kree have, just not to that exaggerated degree. There's ongoing debate whether supermax confinement is cruel and unusual punishment.

A wikification of the idea.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
We're assuming that the genetic uplift of the Vargr addressed the canine reaction to methylxanthines, then?

Fact or fiction?: Chocolate is poisonous to dogs. (Scientific American, 2007.)

Alternately, chocolate-covered expresso beans are Combat Slow Drug for Vargr...

[ETA: That was a nicely done and well-presented Wiki article. The only off-note for me was chocolate in meal bars for the canine-derived Vargr, as noted above. Posit that it's artificial chocolate flavor and it becomes a non-issue.]
