Social Standing?

Hi Hunter, if I recall correctly, Social Standing was a character stat in CT. Are you planning to use this as a stat or treat it a different way?

Thanks,
Rich

Social standing was another of the things that made CT unique. Although most systems have some sort of table or matrix that allows a character to determine their relative station in life, Traveller made it a significant part of what the character was.

Remember the young navy commander from a working class family trying to raise his standing to a point where he could improve his rank and prestige in the fleet? In some ways this is a very "old world" concept, something that has parallels in the 19th century, or perhaps a British Guards Regiment. But it was something that you HAD TO CONSIDER in order to make the flag grade.

It should be there.

Glad to hear its staying. Thats adds a dimension to the role playing, or at least it has in our games. In one of our games I was a Baron, and my character had access to people and things that the other characters would have had to work harder to even get access to. With the feudal style of the imperial government this is an almost essential area of character development IMHO. It can also be worked well from the other side with the "commoners" who have no real use for the nobility and their parlor games.
