Silly Question Related to writing style

Ackehece

SOC-13
Do we have a official style guide document for writing T5 material as of yet? Am not yet in the private forums (though I do have the discs).
Am interested in writing in a formal style for T5.
:)

If there is not one for T5 is there a straight up style guide for writing in any Official Traveller rule set? (I know the Gurps style guide)

Some answers:

1. I've been behind on just about everything. General apology to everyone...
I had a problem with my medication that pretty much wiped me out (after it was all straightened out, I looked at what writing I did for the upcoming Droyne book, and I couldn't even figure out what I was thinking). That is fixed.

2. I'll start with T5 memberships, and then start cleaning out my PMs. So bear with me.

3. A T5 style guide? As a matter of fact, Marc, Rob and I have a draft (some of which was used by the Mongoose Living Traveller Campaign). I'll go ask Marc for permission to post the draft behind the curtain.

I've spent the past week fixing work, and correcting a bunch of what I had wrote for various Traveller projects since the beginning of the year, and hadn't even looked at my full mail box. And if you sent me a personal e-mail since mid-February and I didn't respond, please try again.

But right now, I'll go get the membership stuff straightened out. Before I get sleep.

And sorry to everyone for the shambles. If you have something you need to get ahold of me for, don.mckinney@gmail.com is the best way, and I'll start tracking back.

Ok, I've added everyone I could match up, and sent the one I could not a PM to help resolve it... which I'd better fix, since my box is full...

Next to the legacy errata pile...

I'm essentially using my own style. Right now I'm waiting on some suitable world maps for my adventure. I may publish without them at this point.

As long as what you're writing is well organized, in my opinion at least, you dont' have to worry too much about staying within a given template.

Me, I tried to sort of mimic the old CT booklet style, but not too much. I went ahead and just put in paragraphs and what not as I saw fit, as long as it looked good, read well (typos and syntax corrected), and had all the information the players needed, then it's okay in my book.

I tend to agree with Mr. Ghost, above. Mimic or update the CT or MT style, or just make sure it's well organized.

Primitive formats didn't hurt Keith materials in the early years, because their material was just good, and well written. Of course they upgraded over time for readability's sake, but still.

oh I already do that - but I prefer to use canonical forms for names and styles if at all possible.

First pass for comments is in the private forum...

So is the only way to get access to the Private forum to pay $35 for the T5 CD, even though I just spent hundreds of dollars on the T5 kickstart?

Sounds like discussions on writing and prepping for T5 products is something I would like to be a part of earlier rather than later.

Thanks!

We have an official writing style? What?

I thought we were supposed to write like we were writing military training manuals-use no verbs.

Sorry if that first sentence sounds a little petulant, that was not my intention. :)

Sounded like a reasonable request to me :)

I'll flag this for Don's immediate attention and he can see if it's doable. I think it would be a nice add-on swag for all who supported T5 through the Kickstarter at PDF level or higher and don't already have access.

The Kickstarter and the CD are, as of right now, two separate things. I'll ask Marc.

I have an answer from Marc...

"The Traveller5 Beta has been in process for a long time and it has drawn to an end with the launch of the T5 Kickstarter campaign. Although many of these Beta participants continue to be active in the last stages of T5 production, new Beta participations are no longer available, in part because we are not able to adequately manage bringing new eyes up to speed during this transition period."

In fact, it is not an issue of having to pay another $50 to join the forum; Marc ended sales of the CD when the Kickstarter started, so the beta CD is no longer available for new buyers.
