I was looking more for mechanics than aesthetics, since I'm a rules tinkerer rather than an artist, but that's a fair contribution and the lack of clarity is on me.
I poked through the Alien modules for CT and pulled together a quick-and-dirty analysis of ship armaments, just adding together everything that would be on one ship of each type described and looking at ratios.
Aslan - Pulse Laser 3.33%, Beam Laser 45.00%, Missile 35.00%, Sandcaster 16.67%. The pulse lasers are on a Scout and a Courier. Those ships also use double turrets where dedicated combat vessels use triple turrets.
K'kree - Pulse Laser 38.46%, Beam Laser 0.00%, Missile 38.46%, Sandcaster 23.08%. The K'kree only have two armed ships in their book, and neither have any beam lasers. Turrets are all double. They're tops for missile-heavy armament and second for sandcasters.
Vargr - Pulse Laser 3.92%, Beam Laser 60.78%, Missile 29.41%, Sandcaster 5.88%. The pulse lasers are only on the Seeker. Sandcasters are on a Merchant and a Scout. The combat ships (Corsair and Frigate) have only beam lasers and missiles. Vargr non-combat ships have single or double turrets, while the Corsair and Frigate have triple turrets.
Zhodani - Pulse Laser 1.18%, Beam Laser 38.82%, Missile 30.59%, Sandcaster 29.41%. Only the Trader has a pulse laser. The Zho are pretty heavy on sandcasters. The Trader has single turrets, the Scout a double turret, and combat ships all have triple turrets.
Droyne - Pulse Laser 0.00%, Beam Laser 86.67%, Missile 13.33%, Sandcaster 0.00%. The Scout and Cruiser only have beam lasers, while the Merchant only has missiles. The Scout has a triple turret, while the Merchant and Cruiser use single turrets. Droyne weirdness extends to their ship design principles.
Solomani - Pulse Laser 0.00%, Beam Laser 95.00%, Missile 5.00%, Sandcaster 0.00%. The origin of beam-happy Solomani starts here. Their Escort has two double fixed mounts, while the Cruiser and Fleet Courier mount triple turrets.
Hiver - Pulse Laser 0.00%, Beam Laser 50.00%, Missile 33.33%, Sandcaster 16.67%. There's only one armed Hiver ship, so this is the definition of small sample size.
I know Adventure 4, Adventure 6, and the IISS Ship Files add a few more Zhodani (and one Vargr) ship to the list of available vessels in CT, but I need to take more time poking at them, since the two Adventures use High Guard USPs and I'll need to find my copy of High Guard to translate factors and batteries back into mounts.
