Ship design principles for OTU polities?

TheDark

SOC-12
While working on my Jgd-il-Jagd ship, I got to wondering about design principles for the various societies of the OTU. For the Jgd I decided on heavy defenses and a beam-oriented weapons fit (specifically plasma, but avoiding missiles was the primary goal). What design principles are stated or implied for other groups? The Imperial Navy has its requirements for mobility, but I'm drawing a blank when trying to think of whether (as an example) Zhodani preferences in ship armament have ever been discussed.

(and to state the obvious, I can always just make up stuff for my own universe, but I'm curious what's in published sources that might be useful when designing new ships to stay consistent with existing lore)

Solomani Confederation started off as aquatic aesthetic, apparently influenced by Aslan starships.

Angel fish courier, and flounder free trader.

Possibly, because felines like fish.

Continued to Empire star destroyers during the Rim War.

Currently, looks like Galaticaesque Colonial.
