Scout career

Is there a table missing? Just what skill table do I get to roll from, is there a per year assignment chart missing? Otherwise how do I get a result of Technical? Can a scout on regular duty still end up with courier duty for a year (Fetch this to the Fleet, you'll have to find them) and have access to courier skills for that year? What gives? It seems that I could just choose any of the seven columns as it stands now. And just what is a Discoverer's Land Grant anyway?

how does the DMs for Muster out work, if I serve 1 term as a scout do I roll with a +1? If so how does anyone get a low passage (here have mine) or a wafer jack?

For that matter Marine muster out uses officer rank as a mod. Does that mean Officers have no secrets?

Only Spacers, Soldiers, and Marines are forced into specific tables; everyone else chooses where they want to roll.

Courier Duty's selected for an entire Term, so you avoid Risk in exchange for fewer Skills over those four years.

Land Grants are covered on p.75. For flavour, some Referees allow the hex to be on the world where the Scout made his Discovery.

This may be the most-common first House Rule Referees need to adopt, because it's seemingly presented as a "shall DM", not a "may DM", and hasn't (yet) been addressed in the Errata. The usual solution is to have the player declare, before he rolls, whether he's taking the DM, and to allow that choice before each roll.

That's a good way to do it.

I'm a permissive Referee and allow the players to apply the DM after the roll if they choose. I also allow the players to select from the table if they get a duplicate. That's how officers can end up with Secrets and 1-term Scouts can get a Wafer Jack or Low Passage ticket.

I run a harsh Traveller Universe. Space is terribly unforgiving and I believe in giving characters every advantage they can muster in character generation. That said, I wish there was still a risk of dying in character generation. I really miss that and haven't figured out a good way to re-introduce it. Maybe rolling 6-6 on the Risk?

It doesn't work for all Careers, but:

Perhaps alter the recovery-after-injury rules? You can do anything from making them heal the stat loss after beginning play (about as lenient as I could think of on short notice) to declaring any failed Risk roll to be lethal (the pointy end of that stick).

Or:

Dig back into your LBBs, quick-calculate how often characters died during gen there, and use that to guide how often to kill off not-yet-newbies with your Monolith?

With the discoveries for the scout page 492 has a list of world tc's that can be randomly rolled. It even suggests:

Discoveries
A Scout Discovery can be quickly defined by these charts.

Land Grants
Noble Land Grants can be defined using these charts.

I think this should have be listed on the Land Grants pages, or near the discovery/noble land grants in character generation.

Made a scout last night to familiarize myself with character generation and played with it a little bit.

Got through 2 years of college on waivers then flunked out at the third.

Finished the 'term' by doing 1 year as a Citizen.

Jumped for the stars as a Scout for two terms and then generated a Sanity of three!! I foresee a short career...

Did another 2 terms and now have a Sanity of one. And a scout ship.

I noticed as I was rolling benefits that, with a long career, you would basically automatically get the last thing on the list multiple times.
