Running CT with just LBB 1-3

Can you tell me more about the differences between 77 and 81 and the differences you prefer in 77?
Thanks!

Seconded. As an owner of '81 myself, I'd like to be able to reverse engineer '77 (and HG '79 as well).

There is this:

CT: Special Supplement 4 - The Lost Rules
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/148606/CTSS4-The-Lost-Rules-Special-Supplement

It is on the CT CDROM from FFE as well, but you can get it individually for $2.00 from DTRPG.

It details all of the differences between CT'77, CT'81, TTB, Starter Traveller, HG'79 and HG'80.

What differences have you found that it does not cover?

It is missing a few larger differences, and it is missing some smaller differences that are significant to some folks. Here is my attempt at collating the differences that I have found (and I have included everything in The Lost Rules, and have also noted where errata show changes):

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jsH-EgKvaR0mdbtJMj_Xj7X3TcYyZTqQGf-Gwu58PX0/edit?usp=sharing

If anyone has found differences they care about that I do not list, please let me know, I have read some sections very carefully and skimmed others.

Frank

Thanks for the link and the work.

Greetings, Frank, and thanks. I was looking at scanning my 1977 books and doing about the same thing. This saves some time. I still will scan my 1977 books.

The scans on the FFE CD are pretty good, and single pages (vs a double page scan). You also get the '81 version, along with pretty much everything else (like TTB, TTA, both HGs, etc.).

The CDs are really a steal. Bang/Buck the CT CD is a real bargain.

Thanks for the Heads Up.

Aside from a digital copy of the 1977 rules, I have all of those in digital format already, except for the original High Guard rules, and if for some reason I wanted to use them, I have the JTAS from 1-24 in digital format. High Guard is not one of my major priorities as I am a confirmed "small ship" universe man. I do have both editions of High Guard in hard copy if needed as well.

Frank, I have gone over my copy of the 1977 edition of Book 2, and I do not find anything about a Ship's Locker. What page are you finding that on?

Electronic edition, Bk 2, page 36:

The Ship’s Locker: Most vessels carry a complete survival locker, capable of supplying at least the crew of the ship with cold weather clothing, communicators, basic rations for at least several days, and medical equipment. Weapons other than knives are not generally stocked on non-military vessels, but characters owning their own ships may elect to provide shotguns, rifles, or other guns if they desire. They may also specify other items they consider valuable or necessary for survival situations.

Thank you, I missed that as I was looking in the wrong area. Again, read the whole book thoroughly (kicks himself again).

Is it possible to get a digital version of the 1977 edition by itself? It appears that I already have in digital form just about everything on the Classic Traveller CD.

My document should be in order the text is within the 1977 edition, so if looking for something you don't remember, start reading from a previous item you do remember, or work back from the next item you remember.

If you're looking for stuff in 1981 it may be a little trickier to find the text...

No, Aramis pointed me to the correct spot and I found it. I have the 1981 LBB in digital format, as well as hard cover. The same for Starter Traveller and The Traveller Book.

Thanks again for all of your work in putting that together.

CT'77 and HG1 are both on the Classic Traveller CD 2nd Edition. Which version do you have? If you have the 1st edition CD, I believe there was an update deal that was offered for a minimal upgrade payment (IIRC - it was a while ago).

I do not have the CD. I have been picking books up from DriveThru on an "as needed" basis. Having the 1977 edition in digital format would make it more convenient to compare editions. If necessary, I can scan it myself and produce a digital copy. I have a bunch of scanning to do for my summer World War 2 class, and I can just put that into the scanning flow.
