*rolls in with Vargyr assault fleet armed with potato peelers, garlic butter, and FGMP-15s* For the sake of the Galaxy, I hereby consign the Hiver Federation and the dreaded potato mutants to the ashes of history. Sashimi and Stuffed potatoes all around, lads. Enjoy. *watches the Vargyr go for it*

On a more principled note, if the uplifts ask for help and want to go somewhere else..I give them a slight cut fee when making runs to other planets that are more liberal. Always nice to have an edge somewhere.

A.E. Houseman, actually, not Kipling. The poem is "Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries".

i think uplifts should be granted equality status
after at least one hitch in the Military or cival service, or other important originazation.....also other special privilages....maby command authority, in special cases...maby land or ocean grants...citizenship of choice....who would decide all this???....

Sadly, a lot of this thread presumes that all Uplifts have the same culture, the same driving goals, the same desires. It would seem to me that different races may have different drives, depending on their ancestor's behaviors, the uplifting race's society, the amount of distance from the originating race in terms of forced 'evolution', and the circumstances surround the uplifting process. Changes in any of these areas could create different goals for different uplifts. Compare the Dolphin's history and psychology to the Vargr's or the Ursa's, for example.

Just some food for thought,

If there ever is a first contact, especially before humanity takes to the stars, it might just be someone showing up in orbit and dropping bombs - and I don't think that humanity (or at least those humans on Terra) will have the intelligence to unite and at least try to fight back.

jame - at one time we tried to uplift turkeys...but they dont fly....so some one made them into turky bombs...splat, splat, splat, all over the place...and the damn cows...when we uplifted them.....they went on strike....no milk...no steaks....they demanded their rights...
political mess.....

So uplift some tigers and threaten the cows with them! :D If not that, then trick them - promise civil rights but just get 'em into pens.

Anyone for uplifted lemmings? The perfect assault troops. Genetically disposed to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft. The hard part would be making sure they remember the chutes.

I have to disagree with uplifting army ants...how many times have the 'created' turned on their masters in movies?....the frankinstien thing, jurasic park(ish)"can't fight their nature" stuff...

MY solution...uplift a naturally hardworking, docile, obedient species...how about those leaf cutter ants?..or some other 'farmer' species whose very nature is to work hard and obey?...

not even termites would work, them have acid spewing warriors types...south america has some stingless honey bees (they are a lovely irradesant color..) or perhaps silkworms?

think about it.... :D

how about some uplifted SCORPIONS???.....now i admit that they are not to friendly to humans, but what the heck...might be good troops...makem about 6 ft long!!!!
