Rights for Uplifts!

Okay, I remember Dolphins from CT/JTAS, and there have apperantly been primate uplifts somewhere, and now T20 is giving us the Ursa. My question is, how does the Imperium handle the Citizenship and Rights of Uplifts, in your opinion? Are the beasties second-class citizens, outright slaves, or just members another non-human client race of the Imperium? What do the other Major and Minor Races think of these various beings?

I'm fishing for both canon and ideas on this one; if I end up refereeing the game, one of my players is going to want to be an Ursa. If I find a way to play the game, I may go for an Ursa myself!

As sophonts, they technically have the same rights as any other citizen of the Imperium. As 'uplifts' they tend to suffer quite a bit of predjudice from the other 'natural' races, particularly the Solomani.

In an aborted short story turned trilogy project on Warinir (set in the Rebellion pre Arrival Vengeance), I detailed several establishments:
"Sully's" on Fiisherman's Row of Ernaix, the Tri-City. Run by Sulidolipolis,, or Sully to her friends, a Sea food cafe restuaraunt. All the cooks were Dolphins, in their waldo suits. Break time was of course, under the pier/ restuaraunt with some Herring (Warinir style fish). The Pc's liked the place...
Then again, maybe the Tuna jokes aren't funny to THEM!

Thank sounds like a commercial satire of a company the doesn't use dolphin free tuna I have heard several times.

They already were freaks cause by a long forgotten experiment.

These were the creations of an insane scientist that thought because they can do it they should do it.

Maybe they should label "with Dolphin!" as sort of bonus. Bit like PopTarts when they first went to the 8 pastry box. Or when you get a 6oz bonus of ketchup.

To ease your dolphin eating hearts, I can tell you that 'Dolphin Free Tuna' doesn't necessarily mean there is no dolphin in it. It just means that the tuna boat made grand efforts not to fish where they could see dolphins, and the tuna company put official dolphin counters with the fishing fleet. Yes, dolphin counters.
When a certain number of dolphins are 'accidentally'

caught in the tuna net, all 'legitamate' tuna fishing stops for the year.

Maybe not true sentient, but at least raise the intelligence to level of a trained samrt dog or a mundane dolphin. You could train them to be very efficient attack animals or pet control.
