Pinpoint attacks

So I'm reading my MT combat section and realize that there isn't a task difficulty increase for making a pinpoint location attack.

It just says that the PC declares it, then has to get exceptional success.

I'm thinking that it is far too easy to benefit from this tactic without a one level increase in the difficulty of the to hit task.

Any thoughts?

I think a lot of people find it easier and more "realistic" to raise the difficulty level by one for a pinpoint hit. That's how I've done it in the past and the canon police haven't arrested me ... yet ;)

I thought the text said something like this:

Treat a pinpoint location shot the same as hitting a small target: increase the difficulty by one level.

Will check when I get home.

I use a hit location system so the player specifies the location and the armor value is dependant upon the location specified by the player.

Translation: Player says, "Goober did not wear a helmet I shoot the bugger in his big fat exposed head."

A hit is like hitting an unarmored opponent if the player succeeds.

Oooops you are right sir.

A pinpoint shot if it is an exceptional success halfs the armor value when treated against penetration.

I see nothing in the Players Manual about upping the difficulty.

However, in the errata it suggests eliminating the whole exceptional success rule and going with making the task one level higher in difficulty.

Therefore, this is handled in errata. Good thing I have the errata inserted.

Well, there was also the digest article where Loren or Joe talked about the decision to make ExSuc +2 and not +4. He said it was sort of 'up in the air' and you could try the higher level. I've thought about that a few times. It seems a bit too easy, as does exceptional failure at the +2 level. Or to me at any rate, though he had some math to back up his choice of +2.

Still, I like just makeing PPF one difficulty higher for the halved AV.

STill doesn't make a body pistol very dangerous...
