Patent of Nobility Card (where are you?)

Just ordered from FFE.

Does anyone know a way to indicate a preference on these? In-Real-Life I was an NCO (staff sergeant), a special agent (counterintelligence), and a combat engineer (atomic demolition). So something in those connections would be preferred, if possible.

In any case, at TravellerCon/USA this weekend, I received a new (personalized) patent of nobility.

Marc created personalized cards for everyone who preregistered for his "Can You Survive Character Creation" or lecture events, so I stopped by his table to ask for mine.

While waiting for him to finish his conversation with another gamer, we ended up talking about the Llellewyloly. "Do you know who the Dandelions are?" he asked. "Of course," I told him, "I hold the patent for Count Junidy." His eyes lit up. Apparently not many know the Llellewyloly, let alone can pronounce it.

When the conversation ebbed, I asked for my card, and he dug it out. Grand Duke Rhylanor, which he reminded me was another Llellewyloly holding.

We talked about the Llellewyloly and how they search for planets that fit their unique biology, planets that humans generally don't want. I drew a distant comparison to the Amish (TravellerCon/USA is in Lancaster, PA, which has a very large Amish population) and how Amish Bishoprics are know to just pick up and go somewhere distant when the local land will no longer support their community (usually due to generations of splitting land among sons).

In any case, with two titles relating to the Llellewyloly, I decided that I am positioning myself to become the Dandelion King.

Are patent cards tradeable? I'd love to pick up any of these: Celepina, Crout, Harvosette, Rethe, or Treece... I'd trade my Marquis patents for even Baron patents in those systems.

That's my impression as well, but I've also seen lists of TO&E billets for the unit. It'll be Christmas in November either way.

Technically, Rhylanor should not have a Grand Duke (g).

According to the wiki, it has the estate of an Imperial Knight (B), the fiefdom of an Imperial Count (E), and the world is the fiefdom of an Imperial Subsector Duke (F).

So is this an honorary title without a holding, or is it the stand-in for Rhylanor's Subsector Duke? The "Imperial Nobility" wiki page suggests it's just ceremonial without the holding.

There can theoretically be any number of Nobles of any and all titles resident on a world. But the Nobility extension in the UWP lists specifically the official Landed (High) Nobles that would normally be expected to be assigned to the world as Imperial representatives, based on the world characteristics.

Now, Marc has noted elsewhere (AotI, et al) that there are exceptions to the normal scheme of noble assignments on a case by case basis due to local situations and/or the realities of Imperial politics, and that any world can theoretically have any noble of any level assigned as a Landed Noble. But "Grand Duke" is normally honorific, as it is less than an Archduke, but greater than a Duke, and has no definitive "See" within the Imperial scheme under the Third Imperium.

Perhaps it is a Ceremonial Title associated with an administrative position, or purely an Honor Title granted to one whom His Imperial Majesty wishes to honor by giving a lower ranking noble a distinction within the Imperial system.

Some are unpersonalized... I gave my wife one of those.
Others are personalized to a character, asked for by the person.
Others still are personalized to the recipient's name.
