Patent of Nobility Card (where are you?)

The Emperor's doubles are surgically altered and very well paid volunteers, just like those of everybody else who employ doubles.

You shouldn't believe everything you read in canon. :p

Hans

You don't believe those rumors of altered doubles do you? I suppose you've never met a clone living the life of a prince?:CoW:

Clone doubles are a gross violation of one of the Imperium's fundamental principles. Surgically altered doubles are legal and just as effective as doubles. You do the math.

Hans

Not going to agree with you here Hans. These doubles are not used for experimentation. They are not slaves but do have jobs. They might even offer some type of special retirement knowing Emperor Stephon after a term of service. For example, physical alterations followed by freedom.

In T5 character generation, it appears to be recommended. Nobles, the military can have a double as a benefit. Of course, there may be more to this than meets the eye. :oo:

In this instance I think we can close the :CoW: and say neither of us knows. Stephon will need to amend the slavery laws with a detailed bill of clone rights. :p

Think about it for a moment. If we accept that Strephon's doubles were clones raised from infancy to be his doubles, do you really believe that they were raised with every intention of letting them go their own way if they decided that they didn't want to spend their life according to the plan? Or do you think they were brainwashed to accept their intended role with no choice in the matter? Experimentation has nothing to do with the matter; those clones are the creepiest manifestation of enslavement known to Charted Space.

Or they would be if we believed the story.

They might even offer some type of special retirement knowing Emperor Stephon after a term of service. For example, physical alterations followed by freedom.
Freedom? You mean they would be emancipated after a while? Oh well, that's all right then, if they were going to be freed eventually.

Not.

Well, the entire cloning thing opens a 44 gallon drum of worms, not a can.

With the brainscan/clone a person can effectively become immortal without the obscene cost of anagathics (a 1MCr insurance plan gives you +40 years as opposed to 1 MCr anagathics giving 1 month). I just bet heirs apparent would love that. Not to mention the whole 'brainscan'/'personality implant' thing should have anti-psi imperials freaking out.

Another is the clone guest workers example in the book. Personalities editied to be happy productive workers, good at their jobs and not to complain. One wonders what happens when the work required ends. A 'Retirement' package prehaps?

Wait, T5 has made brainscan uploading a TL15 technology?

Wow... that's precisely the kind of shenanigans that I've always imagined would be a trigger for massive Imperial intervention.

Tech 12-13 actually. (12 for brainscans and personality editing, 13 for cloning)

Quite, which is why compared to the CT-MT-etc Imperium the whole T5 cloning thing seems way out of place.....

From page 120 - an extract about 'guest' workers (aka clone workers)* *

....during the Second Frontier War, Zhodani and Imperial forces repeatedly held, lost, and retook strategic positions on Arden. Thousands of soldiers on both sides were killed. By chance, a non-human prospector Zognar and crew were in the Arden system and saw a chance for profit in midst of all this destruction; they collected cell samples and brainscans from several dozen of the dead..[snip]..dead soldiers became guest security guards and bodyguards; dead technicians became guest factory workers; a dead doctor became a series of sorely needed medical staffers....

Yeah. I have had cloning and mind transfer in gaming since 1982. I'm not sure what the suprise is. One word no one has used PSIONICS. :CoW:
The can of worms was opened in CT.

Friends, Do your player characters really die? Really? Always plan ahead. T5 just formalizes rules that have been around decades.

Gentlemen...

I am:
Duke William of Tobia (Trojan Reaches/Tobia/ 3215)
Count Albe (Trojan Reaches/Sindal 2211)
Marquis of Tobia (Trojan Reaches/Tobia/ 3215)
Baron Nekrino (Trojan Reaches/Tobia/ 2515)
Knight of Fist (Trojan Reaches/Tobia/ 2918)
Welcome aboard your Grace.

The Lord of Many Places.

I am now more titled than my PC and Canonized as well with the publication of Greg P. Lee's T5 Cirque Campaign Book (wherein we find out how I supplement my Land Grant income). I think that is just spiffy. Also useful in case of fortuitous dimensional slips.

So, for my Kickstarter CrImps I got the titles in my sig. Then, since I forgot about the Moot patents, I got a surprise and even more need to travel the Third Imperium. Strephon, um, excuse me, His Imperial Majesty has seen fit to have me running all over the place. Yeeesh. I need a faster boat.

So, my full set looks like this:

:ssb: My Imperial Titles.
Sir Craig A. Glesner of Salla, DaiB 2716 Salla D 310 557-A, PF1.
Sir Craig of Inarli, Corr 2137 Inarli B 677 989-C, by His Majesty's Hand.
Lord Craig Glesner, Baron Donu-Na, Dene 1917 Donu-Na C 650 850-9, PF.
Marquis of the Third Imperium, Dene 2309 Malory C 420 774-7, PF and by His Majesty's Hand.
Craig Glesner, Marquis Phlume, Spin 1611 Phlume C 887 624-8, PF.
Craig Glesner, Viscount Alell, Spin 1706 Alell B 567 89C-A, PF.
Lord Craig Glesner, Count Smoug, Spin 1729 Smoug C 540 78A-9, PF.

So that is all my Titles. I still need to work out the TCs and Extensions for the newest Land Grants, I am gonna need a lot of CrImps to get around, I don't have Mags' ex-Navy perks to pull. Though, now that I think of it I am a Count and if I am on the Imperium or His Majesty's business I might be able to swing some free fuel and LS. Hmmm, now question is how ethical and honorable is it to bum free gas and eats at the SPA's expense? Such things are a Noble's life, questions of taste, ethics and the needs of the Imperium.

Still another thing I noticed is they have a flow sort of. That and they show the travel pattern. I should find on of those Jump Route calculators buried in my bookmarks and figure out longip it would take to do the Grand Tour of my Imperial Land Grants, starting at Salla and ending in Smoug. Yes, I am as my British friends say chuffed that I am Count Smoug, in case you wondered. Already got one nice nerd reaction to that just today. Now as I told Marc I need to learn to breathe fire...and fight dwarves.

Still, it is cool to be a legit, if pretend, Count. :D

1PF or the Plastic Fantastic patent.

"I used to be just like you, a normal Citizen of the Imperium, but when I whip out my Plastic Fantastic, suddenly people want to know me."
Unnamed Baron at a cocktail party on the Frontier.

I imagine the real deal has a holo of the proper bearer, biometric data, and other useful stuff. Also possibly a couple of Amaze the Natives tricks or gadets built in. Another odd thought I had as I sat and for the first time looked at the stack of them is back room gambling of the old Houses using stacks of patents as the currency, mixed in with some Proxies and Directorships. I mean when you got a spare Barony or two why not, all the movers and shakers are doing it.

Oh and the by His Majesty's Hand means that it was inscribed on paper and signed by Him personally, not that robo-singed "K" for Karun or Bilanindin for ruler, king or so as I recall, but I am rusty on the Old Tongue. And yes, it is true He does sign a lot with the robo-signer, I had this directly from Marc, His Personal Secretary. It seems His Majesty is an extremely busy man and rarely has time devote to hand signing the thousands of patents that come His way in a month. Remember even the lowest Knight has an Imperial patent coming to them, add in all the other ones like the lifetime official posting ones, the confirmation of Lady Soandso's daughter to the title now that Lady Soandso died in that terrible tiger taming accident, and so on. Add in the Imperial Bureaucracy and you can see where His Majesty would spend most or all of His day just signing things, not reigning over fifteen thousand systems. So, yeah, I get all snooty about the hand written note elevating me, I can be a bit of a dick Nob like that. I blame it on being "new money".

Well, I am up waaaay to early and I have real life things to do, so I will close here.

Laterness,
Sir Craig.

Now as I told Marc I need to learn to breathe fire...and fight dwarves.

Well, I would suggest getting your armor checked out first for....oh I dont know, maybe an inconvienent weak spot that could be exploited by some itterant bum who appears out of nowhere to shoot you when you are discussing property law and violation thereof with your subjects. (Remember in T5 damaged armour has 0 AV).

And I dont think you have to worry about the Geonee attacking. They're over in Masilla I think. Though a blanket ban of Darrians in your fief never goes astray.

Huscarles.

Yeah, I got something for old Bard. Even the weak points on BattleDress scoffs at his crude TL-3 spring gun. Then, the FGMP-15 fire and the screaming starts and I hate that part. And I never seem to have a stick and marshmallows on hand for some reason.

Oh, and I treat the Space Elves as worthy of their once mighty star empire of old. They were great once, then they fell. It happens to the best of us. Super Science can have some bad side effects. Too bad about their Homeworld get crisped.

For TNE someone designed a TL5 gun that had a chance to defeat Reformation Coalition battledress. It was named a crunch gun and written up in one of the supplements. IIRC it weighed in as a squad support gun equivalent.

Note that I do not in any way vouch for the plausibility of the design.

Nobody here said nothing about no TL-5+ anti-tank weapons. I not such a noob CO as too send my guys up against such weapons without some respect for those pre and low interstellar anti-armor weapons. They might have a chance to crack the suit. But TL "the Dwarves crafted us this nigh magical ballista", not so much. Oh, I am sorry, spiffy bow, that's right after the little bird spoke to him...

And I am sooo have a talking to before I render formal charges for dereliction of duty and failure to pacify the Natives to the Commanding Officer of the Endor units. Oohhh, they are sooo getting it. It may not be the Dark Lord of the Sith's Psionic Strangulation, but the Imperial Bureaucracy has less mercy, the Courts Martial even less.

I stand confused. I had thought no one purchased the grand admiral archduke/duchess role.

TL-7  I'd better get people to work on improving that!

Very Thin Atmo  I wonder how we breathe? Are compressor masks available at TL-7?

Oh, look: Balkanized!!! THAT should be "interesting"! :oo:

But at least we have a C starport; I think I will put my Marquisal (sp?) residence there! Maybe the starport area is pressurized, except for the actual landing pads. Can a C port have a Highport? Maybe I should live up there, above and away from the feuding natives.

FYI, there's a new World Data Sheet service available. Plug in the sector/hex into the URL:

http://travellermap.com/data/Deneb/1716/sheet

The new updates look great. I've commented about some of the data never getting fixed to DonM, Marc and other, but I guess that's stuck with Canon: Small star systems (12 world systems) in the Marches, Depot TLs and populations, and other stuff.

The Traveller Map is top notch.
