Other Traveller Titles

Of the 2 additional titles coming to Traveller that I know of, TTA and Bab 5, TTA seems more 3I compatible. I just happened to be perusing some bab 5 ships the other day and I was flat stunned by the actaul sizes and tonnages of them.

Oops, TTA is the Terran Trade Authority, in case you haven't heard of it.

Any thoughts, or additional info or rumours?

I loved Babylon 5, and am excited to see a sourcebook mapping it to Traveller. Yes, their ships are huge. It makes me wonder if the B5 adaptation will be compatible with 3rd Imperium ships... and what would happen if you pit a Vorchan battle group against a Tigress battle group...

well I know my wife is interested the B5 for traveler stuff

and I admit I have this odd thought of a losdt gruop of analhsock showing up in the domina of deneb

TTA for Traveller

Very interesting history for TTA....

At one point Morrigan Press (www.morriganrpg.com) had a TTA RPG on drivethrurpg.com. Looking today it is gone; both the products AND the homepage for the company.

Can still find the book at Amazon.com (see here).

I always liked the TTA background (I still have an ORIGINAL Spacecraft, 2000-2100 AD (Amazon link). I did not buy the TTA RPG because I was hesitant to invest in yet another RPG system (OMNI).

Things that make you go hmm.

Morrigan still has product on DTRPG. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=56&filters=0_0_10096

TTA is pulled at the moment, but still listed as a category.

Mongoose is trying to poach the TTA license, if I understand their blogs correctly. For which, I'm mixed on... Morrigan produced a gorgeous, well edited, low errata product.

Mongoose produces great ideas, flawed execution, and has no editing skills of note at all. Glad I bought TTARPG when I did. Whish I'd bought the PDF's of the revised TTA books, too.

OK, here's hoping certain people don't edit this for certain reasons...

Here is more info on the MGT version of TTA currently under development, by one of the developers:

This is an appropriate link. It links a topic of interest directly (rather than to root level) and is providing information relevant to the ongoing discussion. Further, it isn't an attempt to recruit members for that other board.

Interesting; Morrigan got their license pulled, and BPI got it, and are making use of the OGL and/or TLL.

Im looking forward to the B5 book as well, its something I have been waiting a long time to see.

Thats because their license had been terminated and part of the agreement they had to quit selling all related TTA material.

I always liked the TTA background (I still have an ORIGINAL Spacecraft, 2000-2100 AD (Amazon link). I did not buy the TTA RPG because I was hesitant to invest in yet another RPG system (OMNI).

Well you can look no farther. TTA is being completly redone for the Mongoose Traveller RPG.

Its always nice to be in the right place at the right time.

JMT: will the other products be redone? (I've the old Hamlyn books, and the Morrigan RPG, but not the Morrigan non-RPG TTA books.)

Can still find the book at Amazon.com (see here).

While this is true, and I cant require anyone not to purchase it, it is requested that everyone that doesnt already own the RPG to wait until the new version is released. This is not just for me but for licensing concerns I am not a liberty to release.

Why do I have the feeling even what you said is straining the spirit if not the letter of some legal contract?

I suspect while Morrigan Press was required to cease publication they were allowed to continue to sell already printed material, hence you find it still available on Amazon.

I see your request here Jonathan as interfering with that allowed trade if my guess is correct. While you probably haven't done anything actionable the way you've worded it I wonder how fair you think it is?

Of course I'm not a lawyer and I'm just guessing at what's not been said and probably can't be, or shouldn't be. In other words I could be totally wrong.

Can you also answer why anyone who doesn't already own and wants it should be dissuaded by anyone from purchasing it? Least of all the new soon to be published license holder? It really doesn't look good from this side of the table.

EDIT: To all, consider the matter closed as I do now, see Jonathan's reply below for why, don't use this as a jumping off point.

It was poor judgment on my part, please accept my apology. I have edited my original post to remove the original statement. I was trying to make a request in good faith, it was only in a desire to help out someone with whom I am close. I am sure the game is a good read and if you like the Omni System please buy as many copies as you would like. The MP version of the game will no longer be supported, and despite my bad judgment earlier, I hope that you will buy our version of the game. Other than Scott Agnew, it has the same design team.

Edit: Message boards are the reason I need an editor. To keep me from saying stupid, but well intentioned stuff.

Well said, and accepted without reservation.

EDIT: And let me apologize for my less than cordial welcome and extend my more customary...

Welcome aboard Jonathan! :D

(I should ditto your "well intentioned" caveat ;))

Dan:

as a generality, when a company is ordered to stop selling a product due to breach of license or due to copyright violation, they are not required to recall it from retailers; they may be required to recall it from distributors, but that isn't always required.

this has resulted in some interesting "floods" of chosen distributors with "delivered but unpaid" product, and revenue coming in after end of license.

Deep 7, for example, sold all their inventory of Red Dwarf to PIG (which does retail) days before expiry of their license and the built in quit-sale date. So new copies are still available, more than a year after expiry.

Companion Games didn't even get ordered to buy back from distributors... just not to restock them... when ADB sued them for a variety of issues.

As an additional, I am also doing Warren Norwood's Double Spiral War for Traveller. Its a vanity project really, I have not found many that are actually aware of existence. It is one of my favorites. It is made up of the novels Midway Between, Polar Fleet and The Final Command. If anyone wants to discuss it I will be happy to do so. :D

I would be interested. As it uses, or will use, a version of Traveller I suppose it should go in the Mongoose Traveller thread

So tell me about the Double Spiral War. DNA? Which would be a weird thing for Traveller to cover since it ignores the possibilities, in the main, of biological engineering.

A slight tangent, but I noticed that you (BPI) are doing Flint's 1632. Is that being redone in MGT? I'm a fan of the setting, but I can also see the typical Traveller 'mixing tech levels' fun.

Its a scifi story from Warren Norwood. Three centuries after the colonist left the earth they have formed two great factions, The United Central Systems and the Sondak Confederacy. They clash in a great conflict to control the fate of the Double Spiral Galaxy.
