Other Deckplan Sources

I know that the Fading Suns line has done deckplans when there was talk between of merger between Traveller & FS. But, what are the other lines or products that produce deckplans that are Traveller compactible. What I am looking for are for freakin' big Capital style ships.

what would you do with them? just have the overall view, or have characters move through a book of pages detailing the ship by sections, or something else?

I am looking to start up a campaign using the Dark Nebula rules dealing with the Solomani Expansion into that Sector circa 1013. The Capital Ship would provide the armour for the Solomani incursion, whilst, I have lots of sources for the little ships. Picture Galatica without the Cylons.

Not really, I do like the idea that I can incorporate some of those snappy graphic. I was looking for commercial products that I could then lay out for the players to get a sense of "their" ship.

... for the players to get a sense of "their" ship.
sounds like you just need an external depiction.

let me know if you don't find anything, I have an idea for something that might work.

I've not seen many 'mahoosive ships' ( eg Lightning class) other games are a good source.
Not quiet on topic, but other deckplan sites I have found...

waves in the black boards for the serenity RPG. some serious high quality stuff there in the starships forum, and a couple of familiar ships rejigged as well. Treat the pulse drive as a jump drive and you only really have to convert the stats.
However some of the heavier alliance ships from the movie have been tackled but its more a designatoin of areas on a standard side and elevation plan. You will need to fill areas with slot in sections.

Also serenity, a damn fine used ship lot!

Again, your usual far/fat/free trader area in size.

Howeversome larger ships can be found. Star wars ships here, universe cannon and non cannon, click on the image for the deck plans.

Some are more like the 600 ton subsidised liner to about 1-2000 tonners (speaking in traveller old money)

All suffer from the adventurer size ships

Those Future Armada are serious top quality. d20 stats, but those can be discarded or converted. Worth getting a paypal account and buy them.

Also worth looking at getting the T4 Naval Architects Manual that has lots of sections to slot into your megabattledreadnought carrier ;)

Well, that is where I am spilt do the Megabattledreadought thing (or Super Battleship, I believe is MJD's words) or do something like a cruiser. What I need to do create a crew that would allow for people to play multiple sets of characters till they find the one right for them, as pretty well all my players will not have played Traveller before. Furthermore, there will be a high morality rate, right at the beginning therefore, characters will need to be replaced.

I have thought of creating my own, but, as noted above I need external visuals as well as the internal deckplan to make it all work. Otherwise, people will think that they are playing with lego rather a real ship.

So the tentative idea is go with a big ship, at first, then have them migrate to a smaller one once the party settles and begins to understand the Traveller Universe. What do others think? Keeping in mind, the main thrust of the adventure will be military/exploration not trade.

Excellent link, Valarian! There's a fantastic Space Cruiser Yamato section in there.

Yes, we suffer from adventurer-size ships.
Cap ships are a bear to deckplan because they are so fracking big. You start to lose detail as you make ship smaller.

If you check out the Original WIPS forum and find "The Rising Dragon", you'll find the largest ship done to date by the Design Alliance. It could be a small cap ship if someone wanted to try a conversion.

I do have half of a cap ship on my website: www.scifideckplans.com

I'll get it finished some day.

</font>[/QUOTE]Indeed, Its good top have many adventurer sized ships, after all, the universe is big, and so many manufacturers out there, nice to have something a 'bit different' representing 'local flavours'.

No dig was intended but the original poster was asking about big ships. ;)

I understand that with capital ships, so much grunt work is involved in mapping the interior space, that there is so few of them out there.

The biggest I have ever scketched out is a 5000 dtonner Scout General purpose ship (semi configuarable to "x-boat tender", mail courior, survay base, intradiction base and even escort carrier). Its something I must one day commit to digital.
