Orion OB1 Association

SOC-14 1K
I've been working on a "semi-alternate" setting. This means, the OTU is as it is, but I've added a new region: the Orion OB1 Association (which also exists in the real world).
It's a region of giant blue stars where there are hardly any (though there are some) solid worlds, just some gas giants and belts, belts, belts and belts, often more than seven per system. Belting is, of course, a common career in this region the size of the Imperium. The most important systems are located by stars visible from Terra (Rigel, Mintaka, Alnitak, and basically every other star in the appropriate distance range from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stars_in_Orion). There are many client states of the M'norr Republic, a mysterious outside force of which strange bases have been found along the spinward side of Charted Space. No-one in the Imperium knows quite where it is... or how big it is... or quite what TL...

Here's some external links:

What's your feedback on this in-progress setting?

Will you get bored of a setting without worlds, worlds with atmospheres and life???

Will I get bored... :) Well, there are solid worlds here and there (there's one in the four subsectors on Traveller Wiki/explorerbase, fittingly called Solid Ground). And who says life can't evolve in an asteroid belt?
And there's the mysterious M'norr Republic to keep your PC's interested if they venture in (though if they're interested in the M'norr, they could also venture into the Khaeaw and Harea sectors, which might be slightly more hospitable, but they're also otherwise lifeless, while in the Association there are established routes in almost every subsector).

Interesting setting. I didn't see any maps. Am I not looking right?

Also, this seems quite far from the old Imperium. If I read right, your sectors are 8 to 12 sectors rimward, which would put them 4 to 8 sectors rimward of the Solomani Sphere. I assume that's by design, close enough, but not too close?

How did you decide on the locations of systems? Did you base it on any actual data, or wing it? Inquiring minds want to know!

There's some subsector maps on the Traveller Wiki:
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_Island_Subsector
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Mintaka_Subsector
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Usramor_Subsector
http://traveller.wikia.com/wiki/Seregolim_Subsector

The exact system locations are made-up, but I went through the list of stars in Orion on Wikipedia, and calculated how much sectors away from Terra they would be, and placed them that many sectors rimward. But when I first started I tried to fit all the ones that weren't in Charted Space in terms of distance on the sheet of paper I had, and then I realised I could just make a second map located rimward, so some of the relative distances for slightly more distant stars will be incorrect (and I still haven't made the second map).
Here's an example: on the list, it said Rigel was 773 ly away from Terra. So I divided that by 3.26 to get the approximate distance in parsecs, about 237.1 parsecs. Then I divided that by 40 (the coreward-rimward length of a sector), giving 5.93 sectors. So I placed it on the Rimward 8 line of sectors (5 sectors rimward of Solomani Rim). The exact position where I placed it was 2733 Geerphli (almost into the next sector, roughly accounting for the .93 of a sector). But the trailward distance I didn't figure in, so this might make the absolute distances slightly longer, but then I "pushed" in some of the more distant ones near the beginning of the list. I hope I'm being coherent! :)
