Opening the beta forum

Since T5 is going back into beta form to be fixed isn't it reasonable that those of us who have paid money to get access to T5 beta or paid into the kickstarter be allowed to see what's going on.

Re-open the beta forum.

Thaqt sounds fair. Mind you, I've never been able to stomach the idea of having to pay for the privilege of helping someone, but if you have paid for such a privilege, you should get your money's worth.

Here's a revolutionary idea, though: How about opening the playtest to anyone who's willing to help?

As long as the playtesters are willing to sign a disclaimer stating that while their input will be given consideration, the final product may or may not incorporate that input. That should be understood by all without the need for such a disclaimer, but some folks don't seem to grasp or accept that idea without it being explicitly called out.

Unless I get instructions from Marc to do so, I may not.

May not? Can not? or Will not?

Without reopening the Forum, the "fixes" are simply regurgitated by the same people who caused the FUBAR to begin with, only fewer of them.

And make no mistake, it was a FUBAR, or, IT WON'T BE NEEDING FIXED now would it?;)

Well, whatever happens, I'll volunteer my time, what little talent I have, etc. I'm willing to sign an NDA and/or whatever else is needed. I'm even willing to buy a copy of whatever PDF editor is used, and donate my time and usage of it to the project.

I think T5 needs help, but the shell of it is very good. It's the polish on the edges and the organization that need help.

Agreed, seconded and dittos. One can complain about the present darkness or light a candle. I would rather work to fix the problems than complain.

How can you propose a fix for a problem without pointing out a problem that needs fixing? And there are people who consider that complaining even if you suggest a fix. And why is it not acceptable to point out problems that need fixing even if you don't have fixes to suggest?

Orders to close it came from Marc.

That is a coincidence. Marc is also the name of the guy who ordered T5 to go to print prematurely.;)

Seriously, I was just trying to clear up the reopening. IF real Fan input is desired in re-railing this train wreck it would be nice to see it reopened, or, better yet, started fresh.

I'll happily weigh in on rendering whatever assistance I could provide. While not a fan of T5 I am an ardent Fan of Traveller and see T5 as salvageable.

Two major things it needs are:

1) A workable index
2) Timely, and consistent, input from Marc on direction.

A good place to start would be a working, and workable, outline.

An open letter to all those pushing Aramis to reopen the beta forum:

Any of us that were in the beta forum before know that just about every correction needed was, at one time or another, already addressed previously in the beta forums. This includes the lack of examples, section after section of required clarifications, and literally thousands of typos and spelling errors.

The fact that these things did not get fixed prior to the edition being published does not mean that these things were not already submitted. Nor does it mean that these submissions got trashed. The beta forum is archived and available to Marc and His group of Norns (Don, Rob, Aramis, et al) to refer to and use to make all the required updates.

Now that Marc's medical challenges have abated, Don has said that he is again engaging Marc on working the fixes. Reopening the beta forum so that we can fill it again with the same errors and rants about those errors will not speed these corrections.

I know it is hard. I know you want to form a mob and shake your raised fists at the sky and shout your frustrations out. We already do this every time someone tries to open an impressions thread. We don't need the beta forums reopened to do this.

Please be patient.

So...it was all there but...

That really just makes it seem all the worse. I think we ALL deserved better than what we got in T5.:(
