Once mention, or abandoned items of Traveller cannon

Has anyone ever collected the, I’m not sure what to call them; the mentioned once then abandoned tech or mysteries of Traveller or listed them. For example, the Jump net and the mentioned jump tapes?

Jump Nets and Jump CASSETTES ;) were never abandoned to my knowledge. Granted I think there's only one canon use of Jump Nets (Supplement 9's Jump Ship) but I thought Jump Cassettes were in most versions of the rules. Or maybe that's just me carrying them through :)

I don't recall an effort to catalog the stuff you're thinking (I think) about. Things like Jump Drives once not needing power plants? Or Jump Drive performance being in B2 not related to TL and in B5 being limited by TL, yet both being in the same rules and equally valid. Or Jump Torpedoes (which may make a comeback... ).

That kind of stuff?

Allow me to summarize:

1) Ban them back to the hell they were spawned from!
2) They are canon, quoted in Book X Section Y Chapter A Verse B. Of course they exist!
3) Now now gents, can't we all just agree to differ?

There. That saves anyone the bother. :)

Works for me :)

At the risk of treading closer to that edge, didn't Marc just make a 'cannon' decision on some book involving them? Something with Steel in the name, I think.

I have absolutely no opinion on the subject, I just have a vauge memory that something may have happened in that discussion within the last week or so.

Cyborgs - genetic monstrosities rather than machine-organism interfaces.

The Alien - appears in an early JTAS as the Rectilian Parasite

Different subspecies of Vargr

Hunter Gordon...PC or NPC

Well as for jump torpedoes in FF&S1 the minimum size for a jump drive is 2 cubic meters and for jump-1 this must occupy 2% of the total volume so the minimum volume of a vessel in this verstion of the universe is 100 cubic meters (about 7.14 dt) so you could have "jump torpedoes" but they are still fairly large.

I'm certain, and have been since it was printed, that the noted bit is errata. Note there were no small jump craft or jump torpedo designs in canon TNE to support this, and if you look at it you can see it's a simple unit translation error. It looks like they took "2 dtons in volume" which is the minimum size for a minimum 100dton hull and forgot to actually convert that to cubic meters when they changed the units. It should clearly have been "28 cubic meters".

Ah, The Regency. A hole in my collection (one of many, but one I have the least second hand knowledge of). Apologies then, so someone did take the error* in FF&S and run with it.

Just wondering, I never compared when I saw FF&S2 but did they restore the 100ton limit or stick with the FF&S1 minimum jump drive size of 2 cubic meters?

* I'll never be convinced it was otherwise ;)

Just remembered another one thanks to a topic in another thread.

Im Beltstrike it is mentioned that the maneuver drive shields against harmful stellar radiation.

Long before FFS, I house-ruled from CT that small craft could not have Jump Drives designed for them, but could mount a Jump Drive designed for a 100dT ship. The vessel was treated as 100dT for all Jump calculations, fuel, etc. This gave a minimum size for unmanned craft of 15dT, two thirds of which is Jump fuel.

Another one-off is Skill Level - 1/2, later changed to Level-0. (1/2 always made more sense to me - your skill is either zero or non-zero. Now you have to try to specify whether you mean zero or nil...)

Canon renamed the legislative body from Senator to Moot Member.

Kinunir and Leviathan predate the OTU.

I interpret him to be a member of the Senate of the Duchy of Regina. ;)
