Official alternate settings

Absent Friends Margrave
Besides Magnus, has anyone else out there thought about putting together an official alternate setting for T5?

Any thoughts on How one goes about getting an alternate setting approved? Approach Don to present it to Marc? Email Marc direct?

What about the open sectors? How does one go about "claiming" one of them to map and produce setting materials for it?

I use an alternate setting for my campaign. I have spent a load of time filling in the nearby sectors, subsectors and everything else involved with that. I look at it as something I can do in my spare time.

I readily admit to a lack of understanding of OGL publications. Does MgT's OGL not cover making your own publications for Marc Miller's Traveller 5? Has Marc made any statement about OGL for T5?

IANAL

There are 4 separate licenses.

The OGL: this license allows you to use the content of the SRD, except for the sample career (because it's specifically excluded) and the title, in any way you see fit. It does not allow use of any of the trademarks. There is no cost, and no required paperwork except including the OGL in your derivative work. There is no SRD for any edition except MGT, and last I checked, it only covered the materials in the core, Mercenary, and High Guard. (In other words, you can't pull materials from Book 6; you have to wait until Mongoose puts those materials into the SRD.)

The TLL (Traveller Logo License): This allows limited use of the Traveller name and the Traveller compatibility logo. It is no cost, requires paperwork be submitted to Mongoose, and only covers MGT. It explicitly forbids OTU content without separate license, and forbids non-MGT Traveller content.

The FFL (Foreven Free License): This license allows a very limited use of the OTU. It allows use of the FFL logo as well. It requires as prerequsite the TLL paperwork.

The T5 license: this is not an open license; it works by negotiating with Marc Miller. Each licensee is technically separately licensed by Marc Miller DBA Far Future Enterprises. There is no requirement for, nor prohibition of, use of open game content, except as individually noted. The specific terms are not normally open to public inspection.
