Offer of Wiki help

Ben W Bell

SOC-14 1K
I'd like to offer my assistance in the nitty gritty of the Traveller Wiki. I have a fair bit of experience with Wikis and am an Administrator on Wikipedia as well as running two Wikis of my own. If you think I can be of assistance beyond just adding material, but structurally as well.

I am basing the structure of this wiki on the traveller wikia http://traveller.wikia.com so if you would like to take a look at the structure there. Hunter would be the one to give you access to this wiki in advance of general release...

I can attest to Ben's work on wikipaedia, impartial and fair sums him up well. He's also quite thick skinned over the amount of flak he's received over some quite emotive issues.

The Help link is where we are describing the structure of the wiki. I will be adding the actual templates once I have the structure defined.

Why thank you. I didn't realise I had my own stalker. Ebay, Wikipedia, the list goes on. :)

So any feedback? We need to get some extensions and links configured before the base templates can be finished...

Well, I've been doing what I can. I need to finish up some UWP bits and the Races page needs a check from some official types. (Have had some great input there from NickNova and DElrick! I just want someone saying how much is canon, etc.)

Heh if you get something wrong someone will come along and fix it ;)

What other extensions do you need installed? I got the last batch installed (well still trying to get the parser one working).

Yeah, we need to get the parser working properly, and the direct link that I mentioned to traveller wikia. I think my message got missed, as I posted two messages in sequence (different topics though). Right now we need to use wikia:c:traveller to point to the other traveller wiki, it would be nice to have something shorter, as I expect to see a number of references.

Also some feed back would be good...

I'll look at the parser again today, be warned blank pages will be coming up from time to time. On the link to Traveller Wikia, there is one to Wikia itself built in but I'll go add one for Traveller Wikia. How about we use say <tw> for the BBCode?

On feedback, my apologies I've been swamped on the other ends of the site getting them up to speed. From what I have seen on the Wiki the work you've done is absolutely incredible! It's shaping up very well and the help is MUCH appreciated! I'll try to get you more feedback once I figure out the parser problem and can get around to looking at the wiki more closely.

Ok the issue with the latest version of Parser is that it conflicts with the Cite extension. Any thoughts?

The parser is more important than the cite extension. Though some people will be disappointed with lack of cite, perhaps there is an older version of cite?

I was looking for feedback from Ben who asked for access for just this reason.

Ok I disabled Cite and left the latest version of ParserFunctions running. Any other extensions you see needing to be installed?

I'll look for an older version of Cite. They do mention using reference tags in place of Cite, this tell you anything? Perhaps a different extension?

If you can recommend an alternative I'm happy to install and try it, but I've searched all over for a fix for the conflict and can't find one.

Well, pooh. :( I'm not wiki-smart, so I don't know any other extensions. What does the parsefunctions bit do? (Just so I know why the cites won't work.)

It looks like there is still something amiss with ParserFunctions. if you look at (the simplest template) [w=Template:Abs]Here[/w] you see that the #expr is not working... So perhaps the conflict with cite is not an issue. Let's try to get the older version of ParserFunctions working by itself (the newer one isn't working), and if that works we can add cite back in, if we can't get the older version working then work on getting the new one working.

(By we I mean Hunter of course, as one needs access to the box to make these sort of changes).

Did we implement this? I don't think that it is working (or I got the case wrong).
