Need to convert MT vols to CT tonnage

Maladominus

SOC-14 1K
Hi MT people,

I use CT system rules, but at the same time I also find some of the "items" (and ideas) from the MT era very useful for a CT campaign.

The problem is that I'm not really familiar with MT measurements.

For example, in DGP 101 Vehicles (an MT book), there is a small tracked ATV that I would like to use for my CT campaign. I need to know how many "displacement tons" this small ATV would cost if the players (in my campaign) were to put it in the cargo hold of their CT starship.

The stats I can get from this ATV vehicle are:

Hull = 4/10 Disp = 4 Config = 4USL Armor = 1F
Unloaded = 10 tons Loaded = 10.2 tons

Cargo = .15kl

First, I'd love to know just how big this thing is? Does it translate into a 4-ton CT vehicle, or a 10-ton CT vehicle?

Second, cargo of .15kl? Is this a measurement in kiloliters? How many kls does it take to equal one single Classic Cargo Hold ton?

thanks for any answer, as I don't know enough of MT system rules to convert these

The "Disp = 4" means 4 displacement, or spaceship, tons.

So it is a 4-ton CT vehicle.
The "Unloaded = 10 tons Loaded = 10.2 tons" is the vehicle's mass in metric tons.

The kl is a measurement of volume in kilolitres.
In MT there are 13.5kl in one ship ton - although a CT ship ton is 14kl.

Emm, in MT 1 dton is 13.5 kilolitres ;)

1 kilolitre = 1 m^3

CT has a 14 m^3 dton, MT has a 13.5 m^3 dton.

Those equate to 14 kl for a CT dton , and 13.5 kl for MT.

MT redefined how big a dton is.

Every other version of Traveller (except GURPS) uses the 14 m^3 or 14 kl dton.

Thanks, guys.

So this MT vehicle is indeed a CT 4-ton vehicle, just as I suspected. The image confirms that, because it is roughly half the size of the Classic LBB3 ATVs.
