Nazi scientists

QUOTE
Not neccessarily, look at the USSR during the second world war. It essentially went from
the 19th century into a position in which it could defeat the most advanced military
power on the planet (Nazi Germany), hold fast and occupy half of Europe and develop
atomic weapons in less than 10 years. Now, don't get me wrong this was at enormous
cost. But, who says the 3I is very different than the USSR?

Yep amazing what happens when you kidnap most of the scientist from the second most advanced military power in the world and then hold them captive for decades

Well, it was not just the kidnapping which propelled both superpowers into their current deadlock. For if it was then Russians would not have been able to make it all the way to Central Europe, and they could have easily over run much of Germany, if was not for existing agreements with the Western Allies, as they did with Napoleon occupying Paris.

Don't want to sound, like one supports the barbarous regime of Stalin's Russia but at least give them credit where credit is due.

Cripes the Russians developed the most advanced tank of WWII! Made the German tanks looks like Shermans by comparison.

Huge gun, fast, maneuverable, and the development of sloped armor.

I'd say the Russians out technicalled the Germans on that one.

I will say though that the 'fast and maneuverable' part was due to the Christy suspension. The US has a chance to take advantage of Christy's design but ignored it. The Russians took full advantage of it.

The rest though was Russian development.

The German tanks were still higher-tech, they just weren't as good...

Good design is not the same as high tech. a major problem with the German tanks was that they were too complicated, they could not be mass produced like the T-34.

You overspend on your military and go bust? Since both US & USSR grabbed lots of Nazi scientists it's not a differentiating factor. Oh, I agree with the original poster that during most of WW2 Germany was the 'most advanced' country - USA certainly wasn't, but it did have the greatest productive potential, and combined with decent military skills that's what counts in the end.
