MT: Robots Step 1 - 6 Robot Head and spreadsheet.

Afternoon OjnoTheRed,

I searched the Squaring Robots Book 8 with Mega Traveller thread to determine if a robots head could be fixed (Cupola) in addition to movable. Unfortunately, my efforts didn't help to clearly answer if the could could be fixed.

My feeling is that the robot can have either a fixed or movable head. So, am I out to lunch here or on track?

Next, I decided to run a design test using OjnoTheRed's nifty OpenOffice Calc spreadsheet application. The Power Consumed is in (kW) with the formula written as: Percentage of Head Volume x Hull Volume x 0.01

I checked, per MT: Robots Step 1 - 6, in the Craft Design Sequence on MT: Referee's Manual p. 63 to find that 0.01 appears to be the same modifier specified for a turret but in megawatts. I'm a bit rusty but here is how I converted megawatts to kilowatts: 0.01 megawatts = 10,000 watts = 10 kilowatts.

If I'm not totally out to lunch then the power unit listed in the spreadsheet should be MW instead of kW, right?

In relation to the robot head: yes, there is no reason it cannot be fixed rather than moveable.

The Referee's Manual figure on power required is 0.01 MW per kiloLitre. This converts to the units in the spreadsheet as 0.01 kW per Litre. (one MW = 1,000 kW; one kL = 1,000 L).

Thanks OjnoTheRed for confirming that the head can be fixed/cupola and/or movable/turret.

I get the impression that a movable head/turret requires power and a fixed/cupola doesn't. Is my impression correct?

I finally figured out, while working on my reply, that 0.01 is correct. My brain apparently went on vacation.

Time to get some sleep, maybe my mind will be working better tomorrow.
